My soon to be husband (May 19, 2007!) and I are planning on trying to conceive in May as well. I bought some pre-natal vitamins. I believe they are the One Source brand. I hope that was a good choice. Anyway, is there anything else I can do to prepare? Orange juice has been mentioned but I'm just not a fan of that stuff. Any other dietary changes I need to make? Thanks!

I'm not concerned with insurance. I guess you could say I am the bread winner in our relationship and I have an excellent policy through my company. In fact he will go on my insurance when we get married. So insurance is not my problem. I have one of the best policies that any of my friends or family have so no worries there! :) I have baby fever though, and we're ready.

Now is definitely the time to start preparing your body for pregnancy. Pregnancy makes a lot of demands on the woman's body.
Try to eat a balanced healthy diet with lots of healthy protein, good fats, ORGANIC produce and supplments when necessary (especially folic acid and Omega-3s).
Drink pleanty of healthy, clean water. If you drink only highly filtered or bottled water, you may need to supplement w/ kelp, dulse, sea salt to keep up your trace minerals.
See the WestonAPrice.org site for excellent information on dietary health, especially for women trying to conceive, who are pregnant, or who are lactating.
Try to give up and "vices" now, like smoking or drinking, etc. Though light drinking won't hurt a baby not yet conceived, it could delay conception and leeches vitamins out of the body.
I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.
Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

Not really any dietary changes I would suggest But other juices contain the same amount of vitamin c so try one of them. . But do check your insurance policy and make sure you understand exactly what they will payfor and what they wont-you have time to change your policy before hand if necessary!
Even if your future husband has insurance there is no guarantee they will pay until a certain amount of time has passed so he can check on that at work
What I mean to say is that you may have need to delay your pregnancy to make sure insurance would cover if your child came way early or had problems.

You should go to your dr. and have a pre-conception visit. They'll go over with you the things you need to be doing and give you a physical, pap etc - to make sure you are healthy and your body is ready to go. You need to take folic acid everyday along with your prenatal vitamin. Your doctor can prescribe this. As for food - eat healthy - fruits and vegetables. Cut back on alcohol. Quit smoking if you smoke. Your doctor will go over all these things with you at the pre-conception visit. Good luck to you!

Have a check up with your doctor first to make sure everything is a go, And don't forget the dentist.Basically just make sure both of you are healthy. Try to eat what you would eat if you were pregnant... fresh fruit, veggies, whole grain bread.

Good nutrition in general. Stay away from alcohol and unnecessary meds. Make an appt. with your ob to see what he/she suggests. Good Luck and congrats to your future!
