Well I just found out last night that I am pregnant, and I go to the doctor on the 2nd of March for my anual visit. At that time will they do an ultra sound or even do my pap smear? This is our first child together, and we were not planning on having kids. I was actually told that I could not have children. So any advice you can give me on what to expect during the next nine months would help. Thank you so much. We are a little scared at this point.

I would go ahead and get "What to Expect When You're Expecting", which is a really good book about prenancy and what to expect. It is available at pretty much any bookstore.

At your first pre-natal checkup, they will do a pap-smear. You will not get another internal exam until you are at the very end of your pregnancy. They will probably draw blood and do a complete blood workup. You will most likely only have blood drawn one other time, around the middle of your pregnancy.

Typically, checkups are: weight, blood pressure, and, after your first trimester, they will listen to the heartbeat and also measure your usterus (they just lay the tape measure over your tummy).

Most places do not give you an ultrasound until past the middle of your pregnancy, but sometimes they will give you one in the beginning. I wouldn't expect it.

Good luck!

Every doctors different. I had an ultrasound right away to tell how far along I was with my last baby. From the little bit you told us, it sounds like youve had problems in this area before, so they should watch you a bit closer. For a normal pregnancy your looking at peeing in cups once a month at least, blood pressure, and ultrasound at 18 weeks or so. Around 20 weeks they check for diabetes-you drink orange pop type stuff. A couple blood tests and some poking of your belly to check uterus sizes. I didn't have a pap untill after I delivered and stopped bleeding.
Again, thats my experiance for a normal pregnancy.
Congrats on your miracle.

Seeing as how you were told you couldn't have children,, they very may well do an ultrasound to check things out. With both my pregnancies they did an ultrasound at the first visit. It depends on your doc. Yes, they will do a pap smear. Best of luck and congrats!

Most likely they won't do an ultrasound until you are 20 weeks, which is normal. Since you are due for your annual, they will give you a pap (I had one).

The only reason they may do an ultrasound earlier is if they think you might be high risk...possibly may put you in that category, because they didn't think you could have kids, but then again I don't know why they thought that you couldn't, so I don't know if they'd put you in a risk category. Definately talk to your OBGYN about it.

It depends on your circumstances and your OB. A lot don't do ultrasounds until after 10-11 weeks, but some will do them as early as 5 weeks. I assume you have told them you are pregnant, if not let them know. When you call, ask if they will be doing an ultrasound at this visit.
And the "what you can expect when expecting" book the above person mentions is a great book to get.

At my first doctors appointment after I found out I was pregnant, they just did blood tests and took down my family history. At my second appointment they did a pap smear and listened to my babies heart rate.

All the doctors are different. Good luck throughout your pregnancy.

They probably won't do an ultrasound at the doctor's office at your first appointment. Maybe my situation is different because I lost a baby last summer, but at my first appointment I was given paperwork to go and have an ultrasound done. I had it done one week after my first appointment. If you would like an ultrasound and your insurance will cover it, it can't hurt to ask if they will send you for one. Even at as little as 5 weeks you can see the baby's heart beating with a vaginal ultrasound.

Good luck!

I doubt they will do one then unless they find something that concerns them but they will most likely later in the pregnancy. An ultra sound does not hurt at all so do not worry about that. They will probably do a pap test on your first visit .

If you are going to the regular doctor, no they wont do an ultrasound. But if you are going for your first OBGYN appointment, they probably will. At least in California they do. They will also perform a pap smear at your first appointment and get you scheduled for bloodwork.

Good luck to you and your partner!
