Hi there. When posting questions such as these, it is best to give as much detailed information as possible so that no wrong assumptions are made and the right answer is more easily given the first time. For instance, what operating system is being used on your laptop? Have you installed/upgraded this operating system since you first started using it? However, even before all of these questions, perhaps the best question to ask is, why do you want the original state? What is the underlying goal here? There may be a better approach to resolving your issue if the real problem is something entirely different. Are you asking this because you need to sell the laptop? Are you afraid your personal information is at risk of being comprimised for some reason? If the intent is truly just to bring your laptop to a "factory state", a recovery CD will not get the job done. If you want it reverted to the state it was in when you first obtained the laptop, you will want to backup any data you need to keep (preferably an external hard drive larger than the one inside the laptop) and perform a wipe of your hard drive. Before you do this, I would STRONGLY recommend you contact the vendor of your laptop and verify you have ALL of the necessary CD/DVD media to get the job done correctly. Most vendors do NOT ship a full operating system on a disk which is what you'll need to revert your machine to its original state.

Hope this helps,
John aka tau_zeppelin

Well if you have a dell you can tryby pressing ctrl+F11 while the compu as soon as you se the dell logo in the screen (inmediately when your turn the compu on) if you have an acer u can try pressing Ctrl+F10 (two keys at the same time) and youre going to have the "system restore" option which is going to reinstall everything, but meke sure you backup your data, sta will be deleted. If u have another brand of compu, look for the manul or call tech support or google the specifics instruccions.

If you want to "clear everything" and set it so it is like the day you got it use the recovery cd that comes with most computers. But be warned, using the CD will clear everything you have on your computer right now...so make sure you back up anything important that you dont want to lose

you have two options:

if you are using Windows, go to: control panels-->performance and maintantenance, on the left hand side of the window, click on system restore, and you can restore the system to a previos status

you should have a recovery CD, you can use it to reformat your computer, but all your files will be lost.

reformat it. basically you reinstall windows and it will erase everything that is on your laptop, then reinstall windows so you will have to start from scratch just like the day you got it. make sure you copy and files/programs you want to hold onto. good luck!
