Students is a new word for those who were called pupils when they attended school.
I think that parents should be aware of their child's whereabouts
at all times.Oh, that means taking on interest in the little darlings!

At lower levels, it is the law that students attend school. If a student does not, the parents should be held responsible - they should punish the student, but the law should punish the parents.

At older levels, school becomes a contract relationship between the student and the administration. As in any relationship, when you break the covenant - spelled out before the relationship is entered into - the party who breaks it should be held responsible. If you paid for classes and the teacher never showed up, you would sue.

By the same token, if you don't show up, there is a disruption of the ability of the institution to serve, and you should be held responsible.

If you are in high school or below, the law says you have to be there. So yes, students should be punished for not attending. I skipped a LOT back in high school, and I WAS punished (when I was caught at least). But the funny thing was: the way they punished me was to suspend me.....which is what I wanted in the first place. Maybe they should re-think their punishment procedures if that's the way they still do it. Like maybe making them serve some kind of "school based community service" or something.

Yes. If someone is attending public school, in the United States, the law states that they MUST attend. However, if a student is attending college or a university, the instructors/professors may impose certain penalties on students who don't show up to class, but there is no legal recourse.

Do you mean the pupils?
I think pupils should be punished because they are teenagers. Very few teenagers are mature enough to realise the consequences. Their parents should punish them if they do not want to attend the lessons.

Some people say that one day those kids will realise their fault when they fail to find a good job. This is wrong! These kids are stubborn teenagers who think they know everything but only later realise they were wrong.

I think the only punishment should be their own grades. If the class is set up in such a manner that the student only occasionally need attend, and they do all the needed work outside of class to get a good grade, they shouldn't be punished for choosing not to waste their time. If they skip class and fail, they have already punished themselves.

I have perfect attendance so I don't have that problem! I never cut class or anything...

But some kids don't attend school because of serious reasons...students should only be punished for cutting classes and cutting school...not for just not attending....

Do you mean school children or uni students?
School children obviously need to be punished for non-attendance but those at college or university can make their own choices. If they want to fail, that's their loss.

In higher education, there are usually consequences for skipping class. Either the teacher takes attendance which affects your grade or you will miss the lecture and do poorly on exams. Younger students, below 16 I believe, are considered truant for not attending school.

I mean its their choice if they want to fail I mean they are paying for their education and all. Also once you get that high in education some days you have to rest because I can tell you from experience (at an early collage school) that some days you feel like you should stay home and then other days you just stay home. That is why they should not be punished for missing school because its their decision because they ARE paying for their schooling (or scholorships.)
