Convertibles are like any other car; their dependability depends on the manufacturer and the maintenance of their owner. As to whether or not you should buy a convertible, that is totally up to you. You should consider the climate of your area. You should consider whether or not it would be a hardship to you to replace the top if necessary. You should weigh the positives and the negatives, then make the decision for yourself.

As to the leaking top, most will not leak in three years, and would be under warranty even if they did.

I have a 2004 Sebring convertible. As long as you take care of the car, the top shouldn't leak. Have the top professionally cleaned and treated once a year. NEVER take it through an automatic car wash! Always use the boot over the convertible when driving over 55 mph to protect the back glass.

And, there is some wind noise at the top of the windshield when the top is up.

As far as the rest of the car goes, I've had some little things go wrong (stereo wouldn't eject the CD, housing around the top's up/down button popping out, etc). But, no major problems yet.

I have owned 4 of them in my life.. Some of my best memories or in the convertibles. I only had one lemon where the top leaked. If you decide to buy one then tell the seller you want to run it thru the carwash first before you buy it.. That way you will know for sure if the top leaks before you buy it.

Look at at the consumer reports on the car you want.
I don't suggest a convertible car if you live in a state with cold cold climate like me I am in Alaska.
