How soon is too soon?

Well, here's the thing...I was 3 weeks pregnant when we found out I was pregnant...I wanted to wait, but my boyfriend had other thoughts in mind...He told his ENTIRE family THAT DAY! But, the good news is I'm still pregnant (thank God) and I'm 21 weeks along with a baby boy. SOOO....It depends on you. You can tell whenever you want...it's better too so IF by that small percentage you miscarry, you'll have your family to support you during that sad time...but, I would say to you...tell when YOU feel ready, that is unless you have a boyfriend/husband who is too excited to wait. Ha ha.

A lot of people say you should wait until 12 weeks because that is when the main danger from miscarriage has passed.

Personally, I told everyone within a couple of weeks of finding out, which turned out to be at about 7 weeks. I decided it was better people knew just in case the worst did happen and I was crying all over the place. I didn't want to have to pretend I had a cold or something instead of telling the truth.

As it happened, nothing did go wrong and my little girl was one last week!

It depends who the person is. You don't want to tell the whole world in case you miscarry. The last thing you want if for the friend of a friend to come up to you in 3 months time and say 'how's the bump' if something went wong.
However, it's fine to tell close friends and family, because if something did go wrong then presumably you would tell them about it anyway and no one would put their foot in it.
I told family as soon as I knew, close friends over the first 3 months as I saw them, and the whole world once I'd had my 12 week scan.

I told my family as soon as I found out. I told my employer and coworkers at approximately nine weeks. I would have waited until around the start of the second trimester, but since I work in the hospital laboratory I decided it would be best if they learned the news from me. As opposed to learning it from my blood work.
Commonly, most woman wait until around the second trimester when the chance of miscarriage decreases. This (excluding cases like mine) is the best course of action in the workplace. However, as far as family and friends are concerned, that's more of a personal preference.
Hope that helps. Take care and congratulations.

I think it depends on if you are superstitious or not. One of my girlfriends refused to tell anyone until she was in her second trimester because she thought that telling sooner woudl make her miscarry. I am not at all superstitious - things are going to happen regardless of what I say to people. I also cannot keep a secret so I told the week after I found out I was pregnant. I was about 8 weeks along at that point.

Congrats and good luck!

This is my first pregnancy and I was terrified of miscarriage so depending on who I was telling I waited different amount of times. I told my husband the day I found out, then told my parents about 2 weeks later. I didn't tell friends or people I work with till I was about 12 weeks.

I am terrible with surprises and started telling people when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I knew I should have probably waited until I was 12 weeks, but found it impossible to keep the news to myself :)

Most tell people once the trimester is over - about 3 months or 12 weeks in. I had a friend who miscarried twice and she hated that she had told everyone too early. So she kept it a secret on her third - and now she has baby Malcolm!

But if it's something that might affect your work, you can mention it earlier. Or to your parents & relatives. They'll want to celebrate with you sooner!

Because of having miscarriages and an ectopic(which didn't work out well not telling cause I ended up needing surgery) I usually wait until around week 12 to tell anyone as that is usually the safe zone when the chances of miscarriage drastically drops.
