the first thing that doctors ask is whether a couple has lots of regular sex from 6-8 weeks after period, as egg fertilisation can start early, for as long as possible.

Also, please look at previous answers in "pregnancy" & "difficulty getting pregnant" etc. - this is a common question & there is loads of good advice (see link 1 for example)

The 2nd link is to a website that might help

Good Luck!

it wont do any harm to repeat the test in 5- 7 days. If the test is negative again then as you have been trying for a baby for 2 years then I suggest that you see your gp and ask about having some fertility tests done and maybe also get a referal to see a fertility specialist. In the mean time take folic acid, have sex at your most fertile time of the month, eat healthily and take regular exercise. Being over or under weight can also effect a womans chances of conceiving. If you have an irregular cycle then try taking agnus castus, this is a herbal remedy that can help balance a womans hormones and improve regulation of periods. Good luck

Well its too early to rule out pregnancy! I had to wait (along with more women than id realised)until I was just over a week late before my body produced enough pregnancy hormone to come back with a positive test result. I did three prior to this and all came back negative. You dont mention if you have any symptoms? My biggest give-away was even before I missed my period I was constantly weeing! Goodluck, id wait abit longer and if you are not on in a week Id test again. Ive got my fingers crossed for you..two years is a long wait and you deserve the good news at last! x

You can only get pregnant when you ovulate which is approximately 2 weeks prior to your period. Your egg waits for about 24 hours but the sperm can live in you for about 5 days.

If you have a missed period and you took the test, it is possible that you really aren't pregnant or the test didn't pick up the pregnancy hormone which is HCG because it is too early in pregnancy and the hormone is very light. I would wait just alittle longer, if not go to the gyno.

Try again in 2 days time if your period doesn't come.
I did a preg test the day after a missed period and it was negative. 2 days later I tried again and got a positive test.

In my opinion, the best way to go about trying to conceive (or avoid) is by charting your fertility signs, especially if you have difficulty conceiving. Sometimes, a delay in conceiving turns out to be a fairly "simple" issue which can actually be detected by charting your fertility signs and treated at home. If there are more serious reasons for not conceiving/carrying a pregnancy, charting can tell you that too.

For example, a woman may ovulate regularly, but not be producing the "usual" several days of fertile cervical fluid (ESSENTIAL for conception) before ovulations. Perhaps she produces only half a day immediately before ovulation or very little at all. Day counting and even just basal temps alone wouldn't pick that out. A doc isn't even likely to recognize that issue. Poor quality CF CAN be corrected at home a lot of the time (either by drinking more water, drinking green tea daily, drinking grapefruit juice, or using plain robitussin). Clomid, by the way, can dry CF right up and prevent conception even if it induces ovulation.

Another impediment to conception (and usually to carryin a pregnancy) is low progesterone and/or short luteal phase. The luteal phase is the time after ovulation and before the next period. It is normally 12-16 days long. It must be at least 10 days long for a fertilized egg to implant. THerefore, a woman w/ a short luteal phase (even a borderline luteal phase) may be able to conceive but would likely miscarry before she even detected the pregnancy! Low progesterone and a b-vit deficiency (and even somebody who feels they are taking a multivit supp and eating a balanced diet can find a b-vit deficiency) can cause SLP. Low progeserone usually shows up as low and/or erratic post ovulatory temps and can be helped by OTC natural progesterone cream, and or prescription progesterone. A b-complex vitamin daily can strongly help cycle issues caused by a deficiency.

Even something as simple and ignored as nightlighting can have an impact on a woman's fertility.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

It's too soon after your missed period to be absolutely sure about anything. It may just not have come yet, or it's also possible that you are in fact pregnant (in which case congrats) and it just isn't showing up on the test yet. Give it at least a week. Good luck!

I know it's difficult but try and wait a few more days to see if your period comes and then if it doesn't test again or go to your doctor a nd request a blood test.

I've heard that if you've been trying for 1 year with no success, you should go to a doctor.. if you've been trying for 2 years and you haven't seen a doctor yet, that's definitely the place to start.. doctors can analyze your problem a lot better than anyone on Yahoo Answers could..

My prayers are with you. My brother and his wife are having the same problem. It is so sad. All of the abused children out there born to parents who could give a crap and loving people long for the gift of a child. I will never understand. Pray and ask for Gods guidence be willing and open to hearing his answer to your prayer, maybe he has another Job for you. Either way, I will pray.
