there are opportunities for plays in my area but they are all musicals!

Reach for your dreams! don't get discouraged if you are turned down a few times... just get right back up and try again. I do think you should probably take a few singing lessons and maybe take dance to develop your talents for performing. Make sure you have a backup plan if the acting thing doesn't work out. Never just go out and suppose your acting will support you. Make sure you have a day job when you are starting out. If you get cast in a big role in a movie or tv show then maybe you will make enough to support yourself.

95% of actors are homeless or out of work.

Being a triple threat - (able to act, sing and dance) makes you just that - a "triple threat." Your chances are better - because you can do a wider variety of things. But don't worry - because a lot of actors do not sing and dance.

The best thing you have going for you is the fact that you are 14 and you are showing an interest in acting at this young age.

Where do you live? Living in New York or L.A. helps a lot. Start saving now. That's where you want to go. I have a friend who moved to NYC at 18 - and he's not FAMOUS - but today - 20 years later - he does make his living as a performer - and he is quite well known in the cabaret circles of New York.

Get to the city - take classes. Take acting classes - AND take improv classes. Audition for everything that seems right. Get an agent. Start to work towards both EQUITY and SAG. Once you are union - you'll make a certain wage. If your parents will help you with $$$ your chances of making it in the city will improve greatly. Not having to worry about rent and food - and only having to worry about making it as an actor is a HUGE difference in surviving the city.

The chances of you "getting discovered" and "making it big" are not great. There are soooooooooooo many people who want to do this - and there's LOTs of talent out there. There's only so much room. Still - it's not impossible.

Break a leg - always!

I think you have all the chance in the world son. And don't say you are good looking you guess. If you want to make it big into the acting world of famous tv and movies, you need to walk around with a sense of pride. Not Arrogance or anything else either, but confidense. You have to know in yourself that you are a good looking, talented young man...that is how you have to portray yourself if you want to become an actor. You sound like you are on the right path, but you need to be more confident. Confidence goes along way in life. You talk better, you walk better, and people will tend to listen more. Remember, there are tons of kids who would like to do what you are doing now, they just dont know how. When you do interviews or casting calls, you have to walk in like you know what you are doing. And that all comes from confidense. So when you want a job and your telling an agent, you say...hey im 14, been acting for a couple of years. I am a good looking, great personality type guy who i believe would be great for your blah. You need to speak clear and have poise. I would also try and get into some out of school acting classes right now. And then after school gets out in the summer, take a couple of more or try to find some casting calls where you can try out for some small commercials or films. Look for an agent to who will help you find things. Also, dont pay an agent anything. If they truly want to work with you, they will get you jobs and get paid that way. They take between 10-20% of your money, but they also hook you up. Good luck, and stick with it. If you love it, do it!!!

First of all, you will not be "discovered." That was something that only happened on rare ocasions in old Hollywood when the production companies ran the studios. Forget this notion.
Singing and dancing are only really important to those who want to do that sort of thing.
Opportunities can come from the most unlikely of places; but if you're constantly looking for them, instead of concentrating on your acting, I gaurentee, you'll never see them.
Jim Carry was only an overnight success after spending nearly 15 years working in his field. Tim Allen also.
It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of disapointment, and a lot of guts to make it big in Hollywood.
First and foremost; get an agent.
Good luck.
