First of all you would need to know some Latin American history to answer this question effectively...most people on here do not know why Chavez really hates Bush, and I will tell you...in 1992 Chavez lead a coup attempt to overthrow the Democratically Elected government, which the US helped him with to a certain extent because he claimed he would help stop the flow of drugs into the US...but he failed and was labeled an "Idiot" by first President Bush...he spent time in jail and was elected President in like 98 or 99...not sure when...he won by telling all the poor people he was going to share the oil money and give the money of the rich people to them...sounds kind of like Democrats doesn't it...he hates Bush because of Bush's father, no other reason...he did not hate the US while Clinton was President did he? I feel it will only be a matter of time before he is overthrown, for a couple of reason, the poor will realize they are still poor and Hugito is now rich, he will probably cross a Narcotraficante, or one of his Generals will put a bullet in his head to take power...he is now a dictator...do you honestly think he would be talking like this if the US wasn't already involved in a war...you didn't hear anything from him till after we went into Iraq...he has threatened some of his neighbors, so it may be a matter of time before he pisses off Colombia or Brazil...his days are numbered, but I really doubt the US will be involved...

Its too early to be talking about The Devil this morning! (The Real Devil that is- Hugo of course)
But well, lets see.... Hugo is always talking about Georgie over here plotting some evil plan against, the truth is he's a schizophrenic paranoid freak because he's really intimidated by his rival that he envies so much. Hugo is on all types of medications for being bi-polar so it just goes with the territory, its just sad to have a whole nation let this guy stay in such a position.
No....unfortunately I don't see some kind of major invasion from the U.S. anytime soon, there would defenetely be plenty of notice and warnings if anything like that would happen. That's just not what America is about. But it would be a good thing since Chavez is a threat to our poor country of Venezuela, even though not so much to the U.S.

Chavez a threat to Latin America? Can't you see that the US is the threat to Latin America?
Just because we don't like the way a government operates we do not have the right to intervene. It is called sovereignty and it's one of the most important things to guarantee national interest in difficult times.
This IS the problem with the US international policies. Economy and economic interests are the drive for all these movements and the US uses democracy and some other poor excuses to justify illegal interventions.
I am not talking recently in the Middle East, as this the second phase of US expansion. I am talking the recent past with Latin America
We might not like a government that has been elected but we cannot intervene. We, and specifically the US policy makes, have committed acts of crime and supported acts of terrorism, yes terrorism, in the name of democracy (US economic interests)
Not long ago, the US has overthrown a democratically elected Salvador Allende to put a dictator in Chile's government. Augusto Pinochet has committed crimes against humanity and was never tried because he was put in power by the US and had US backup.
Also, look at Nicaragua, the US openly backed up terrorist attacks, by training and financing the terrorist group attacking Nicaragua, and this was about 15 years before 9/11. For this and the breach of Nicaragua's sovereignty, the US was ordered in court and later by a UN resolution to pay $12 billion in compensation.
Now tell me, what is the purpose of overthrowing Chavez? What is Chavez trying to achieve vs. what is the US trying to achieve.
Any state is sovereign to privatise PLCs. What Chavez is trying to do does not please western shareholders but we have to realise that the western world went there and took over their natural resources (just like everywhere, hence poverty will never be solved).
A "rich" country like Venezuela is providing the majority of its wealth to the western society (well, the developed countries of the western society, as Venezuela is a western country) and Chavez realised that is is renegotiating some international deals. This does not please shareholders and the US is again intervening in the name of "democracy" i.e. economic interest.
Open your senses and do not just hear US media. Look around, read and you will see why people do not like US policies and increasingly the world is against the US hyperpower

those have been insurgents -- no longer terrorists. Terrorism is a approach and a tactic -- is a fashion of doing issues, no longer (in many circumstances) a objective by itself. Insurgents attempt to overthrow their government. in the event that they win, they're freedom fighters. comparable ingredient, distinctive background e book. Insurgents might additionally be terrorists, if the potential they use to overthrow their government comprise attacking civilians, and sowing terror and chaos to realize their political objectives. So, it concerns how those human beings tried to overthrow Chavez -- what potential they used or tried to apply.

Bush's party once howled about the threat that Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega was to Latin America. Then a few months ago, Bush calls Ortega and congratulates him for being elected prsident.
Chavez is noisy, but hardly a real threat.

Words are not a threat. Chavez is not regarded as a threat to the US, and will be left alone, in my belief. Afterall, what does Venezuela have that the US wants?
And more to the point, a war in Latin America is just too close, geographically, to home. The potential of physical warfare taking place in America is too great.

Chavez is borne simply out of the horrible US foreign policies.
His rise can be attributed to US distrust and hatred abroad. He remains as a thorn in the side of the US because we are presently distracted in Iraq and other situations (N. Korea, Iran) which are starting to spin out of control.
The administration has over projected the power of this country to the point where dictators see that the coast is clear because the US isn't in a position to do much more than it's doing.
What a mess the past six years has been

Firstly I would like to point out that Chavez was DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED by the people in his country... yes, through a process that the US continually whinges on about.
Secondly, Chavez is considering selling his oil in Euros and his country is a powerful OPEC member. Iran are currently selling their oil in Euros and look how high Iran has shot up the US priority list and Saddam sold his oil in Euros from 2000 until the invasion of Iraq. You see what happens when you sell your own resources in a currency other than Dollars. That is the biggest threat to the US. If widespread oil trading in Euros takes off then the US can kiss its economy and its dollar goodbye!!!

that is treading on dangerous domain. You do realize that Chavez was selected democratically by the people. They reserve the right to choose socialism just as you reserve the right not to.
There are far more pressing issues in the world today than a socailst leader, who as of now has not shown any threat to the USA.
