My new watch has a meter for leap year, what does this mean?

Leap years are years with an extra day (February 29); this happens almost every four years. Generally , leap years are divisible by four, but century years are special, they must also be divisible by 400.

A leap year is a year of 366 days. The next one will be 2008, with February getting the extra day.

The simple definition is that it is the year with 366 days instead of 365. It occurs every 4 yrs. and the day increased is Feb. 29.

February gets and extra day in the month, so the whole year has an extra day (366) 2008 is the next leap year.

A year (in any calendar) in which there is intercalation. (Webster). Likely your watch will automatically adjust for leap year if the date is properly set at the time.
