unpopular answer but womens lib brought women out into the arena for equal rights. whether or not it is now equal surely women have moved dramitically toward a 50/50. traditional roles of the housewife and the worker have been all but eliminated except for the rich and the poor. the middle class is in the muddle of role confusion. in the 60's as a fatherless child i was a freak but today it is 'normal'... more than 50 of all USA children live in single family homes.
we are a pagan society where everyone is looking for riches, pleasure and CONTROL. you get what you ask for.

Because there are lots of responsibilities if you were to get married. Some people can't take these responsibilities. There are some that are affected by the increasing divorce rates. And, you never know if your partner is going to stay faithful when temptations appear. =\

More than on reason: first I think that a lot of women are more self sufficiant so they don't need a man as much. Second, I think it is because perhaps men are more shallow now and really want a hot woman who will remain hot forever and are not as much family oriented. Finally, I think because people have lost focus on life and that we are supposed to be pleasing God but bringing good, practicing, religious kids to this world to have a better future. I hope no one is offended by this answer, it is not meant to offend.

why not as much marriage? well, most governments in the usa won't allow same sex marriage. they are too stuck on their bible-thumbing values.
why do so many straight people get divorced? well, the core value of commitment doesn't mean as much anymore. the grass always seems greener on the other side, people give up to easily.. plus, the reasons for marriage have changed. it used to be about financial stability, but now, especially women, are having careers and they don't have to rely on a man's income anymore..
finally, people have gotten away from older core values. people used to wait for marriage to have sex, have kids, etc. but not anymore.. marriage is not as necessary as it used to be.

Because people don't care for the gvmt's one-size-fits-all definition of what a marriage is. Everyone relationships are as unique and different as the individual.
The gvmt should get out of the marriage business and let the people determine what their marriage should be.

because people always expect the wife and husband to move in pair, going to movies, feasts, dinners, gatherings etc. After married, gossips seem to spread whenever the other one is not around during a huge occasion.

Increased divorce is mainly due to "irreconcilable differences".
It's kind of like a "broad-spectrum" antibiotic ...covers pretty much everything.
