The more cells the battery has, the longer it will run between charges. The 9 cell SHOULD be more expensive.
No you do not need to buy the secondary modular bay battery.

the 53 WHr battery can hold a larger charge (about 1.6 times the charge of a 32 WHr battery) and also should be more expensive.
for example: if the 32 WHr battery has an up-time of 2 hours, the 53 WHr battery will have about 3 hours of up-time.
a Secondary Modular Bay Battery is a separate (and mostly different) battery to increase the up-time together with the primary battery. it fit only in the bay for the CD/DVD drive. this is not what you want.

Since they both say they work for similar models, I would call Dell and ask them if they are the same unless you are willing to take the chance that it does not work. Your computer will have a service code with it, if there is no label it will be on your desktop..look for it. Type that into the dell website and it will tell you which battery.

the more cells the battery has the more charge can contain the more time you can use your laptop on battery before you have to charge the battery again (more WHr (working hours) on one charge), and you have to buy the battery only
