Hey, morgan (the best name in the WORLD, by the way...). The baby is going to come when the baby is ready. Period. Not even pitocin induces EVERY time. Some things seem to work but because obstetrics is an ART with almost NO science to it (what we know, not what happens) there is no way to tell what gets that baby into the birth canal. The best thing is to talk to the women in your family. These things seem to follow patterns according to genetics. Congrats and have fun, I see you are!!

Yes it does. I've used sex to induce labor 4 times. And Dr.s will tell you to have plenty of sex to encourage labor.

Yes there is a chemical in sperm that causes the cervix to soften. So I guess it would depend on how far you go with it. Also the penetration and activity can cause contractions but with out the sperm, if it is not time for labor to start, the contractions will slow down and die off.

I don't know if there is any stats out there on the subjuect, but when you and your partner have sex, a woman produces the hormone oxytocin, which causes her uterus to contract. Meanwhile, a man’s semen is released and it contains a substance called prostaglandis, which softens the woman’s cervix. I had my son on his due date. I don't know if its cause he was just ready to come out or cause my husband and i had sex a few hours before I went into labor:)

yes sex can induce labor.the stats on this would be that if a women has a threatened misscarriage than you have to refrain from intercourse until your Dr says its safe. When you have an orgasm the uterus contracts thus allowing it to start labor good luck

i remember from med school that there is a substance (FORGOT WHAT IT IS THOUGH) in the semen that stimulates the cervix to open and efface...and one of the old black ladies that used to do home births that worked in the L & D while i was a med student would tell these girls to get their man and go down to the car and get it on and sure enough, a few hours later, they would be back in labour...it worked...

well, i have heard both ways. however, while semen does contain a chemical or hormone that could cause labor to start, it doesn't contain it in high enough amounts to make a difference.
