I will be 30 weeks on Sunday with my very first baby (a boy!).

Since about week 15 I have had incredible sharp pains in my round ligaments. A couple weeks ago, this turned into constant "sore" pain (like I worked out too hard the day before). It hurts in my inner hip/pelvic area when I twist or get up out of a seat, and sometimes when I walk. One of the worse times is when I am trying to get out of bed, or trying to switch positions at night when sleeping.

If I am sitting "indian style" on the floor and I get up, I have to wait for a minute in the crouched over position before I stand up completely because it hurts so bad. (Kinda like when your back freezes up but in a different area)

I have tried to stretch it, but I cant find the correct position to get the full stretch. It seems like nothing is working.

I need help, because it is getting worse every single day, and I have 10 weeks left! I dont know what to do, and I dont want to take tylenol all day to deal with the pain

This is completely normal, and you will feel many more aches and pains before you're finished. Ask your doctor for pregnancy exercises, with pictures to show how to do them properly. You really shouldn't be sitting indian style as this will block some of the blood flow to your legs. You should be getting up slowly, no matter what position you're sitting/laying in.

What's happening is your hip bones are separting further apart to accomodate the space needs of your baby. So the muscles and ligaments are also being stretched in ways they've never been before. You can gently rub the parts that hurt, use deep breathing to get through the pains, and take tylenol only when everything else fails. Warm washcloths on your hips will soothe some of it, too. Get plenty of rest!

You can also ask your doctor about the elastic belly thing. I don't remember what it's called, but it's an elastic band that goes just under the belly to help support it, putting less strain to the abdomenal muscles.

Honey, I am sorry to say that this is normal and there's not a whole lot you can do for it. I had that soooo bad with my 2nd child. It's called Broad ligament pain. Those ligaments are stretching to the max at this point. I too, would have terrible difficulty getting up and down out of bed too. Amongst other places. I stayed in pain the majority of the time. I could feel my pelvic joints popping and giving away there at the end too. Just do the best that you can to relax. I know this is hard to do, but just try. The little one will be here soon and things will get (almost) back to normal. Congrats to you. I hope that he's a happy and healthy baby boy!!!!

This sounds normal to me, I am getting the exact same thing and when i spoke to the midwife she said that this was normal and that all pregnant women get some sort of pains down. I am the same as you, i am in bed and will move and get a sharp pain around my tummy, it doesnt stay for ages and usually goes but was warned that it will get worse teh further on i get.

Just watch how you are turning in bed, and standing up etc. the quick movement can make this pain occur.

Try not to worry, and Congratultions

This is normal. Just try to stay in comfortable positions. Make sure you sleep on your side with a pillow between your legs and don't make sudden movements. I have the same thing and think this is why pregnant women use their arms when getting up from a seated position...

Ask your Dr. if it's really bad, but I don't think there's much they can do.

At night sleep on your left side, prop a body pillow behind you. A small pillow between your knees.

Lay on the floor with your knees slightly bent propped on two pillows. Push your lower back to the floor. Do this for at least 30 minutes. Remember to push your back...back down if it raises.

Try foot massage. You can do this yourself to. Print off a page from a good site for foot massage. Or buy a book with pictures for your husband to use on you.

Mainly we are trying to get your circulation going Hun. So if you take the time to do a little research on the computer I bet you will find what is perfect for you. The above answers are from my Mayo Health clinic book. And I use them on the ladies I support.

Hang in there Hun

I'm due in 6 days and i've had that exact pain experiance throughout the pregnancy. you just have to get up slow because what it is , is your baby is sitting low and he's in a comfortable position (maybe napping) and he doesn't move as easily as you would think when you move. It;s pretty much the baby pressing on something a wee bit too hard. I would not suggest you try and strectch it out.

I also feel that what you are going through is normal. Talk to your Dr he may be able to send you to a physical therapists for relief, but I doubt it.

Good luck and I hope your 10 weeks go fast!!
