Yes and no.

When a politician says something, 99% of the time he means what he says. He wants to do certain things. However when he gets into office, he finds that it's harder to do then he thought.

The lies comes in when he gets in, and lies that he is trying to do what he said he was going to do.

That's my opinion.

yes...otherwize the rest of the world are just stupid, which id like to think is not the case...how else would they [politicians] have come into some sort of power? they make people believe what they say, claiming to give the people what they want to gain popularity although not necessarily keeping their promises..
in last weeks 'the economist' there was this thing about the new president of Ecuador 'Rafael Correa', how in his campaign his 2 main promises were - set up a Constituent Assembly and the second was to spend less money on debt and more on social programs...he has been in office for little over a month now, and is already 'preparing for a tactical retreat' on the second promise...

I do believe that politicians are convincing liars. When I vote I choose the one that I think lies the least. One famous example was when George H. Bush said "read my lips...no new taxes" then added more taxes during his presidency
