Revolution...made the break with the English Monarchy and helped develop a national consciousness. It gave the former Englishman a freedom of choice, and individuality that was unknown to their daily lives. It helped to form a new identity, associated with the founding of a new country, governed by the people of the country.
Industry brought more immigration, from many more nations, and infused the country with new ideas, new customs. It began, in earnest, the diverse society we have now. Immigrants, free to exercise their own religions and beliefs added more cultural influences.
