An earthquake is an event, it is not a wave. Earthquakes create mechanical waves called s-waves, p-waves, and two kinds of surface waves.

They are mechanical in that they are kinetic energy, not electric energy.

Of-course the earthquake generate only mechanical vibration called propagation of waves. Mainly 4 types of waves namely P.S,L,R are generated. Electromagnetic waves are sensed before and after the quakes.
