I don't believe in any sort of religion. Although I do not go around telling this to many people due to the arguments it creates. It's just my personal opinion and I do not try to force it onto anyone. I think that religion was created for those who were weak of mind and needed something to believe in, they needed a driving force to "scare" them into living a straight life, or straighter life rather. Repent and you're forgiven. If only life was always so easy. No, Life isn't easy, and was even more difficult for those who lived before us. They didn't have the technology today to explain the many mysteries of the world. So they left most anything they couldn't explain up to a greater being. Hence the term Miracle was coined. Religion also became a major cash opportunity for those who chose to manipulate others less educated. Ancient day scammers who claimed to be able to communicate directly with the almighty, so people would treat them as a supreme being as well. Those who were high atop the religious pedestal controlled a great deal of power, and used their power for conquest and started many wars. And don't get me started on the good book.. I'm sure some of you did the rumor spreading activity in grade school. Where your class lines up the teacher told one student a story and then the student told the next and so on and so on. The story never comes out how it started. Now you expect your good book of philosophy to be history, when it is nothing more than ficticious stories passed down for generations. I believe in the evolutionary theory. Everything in the world as well as the earth itself has evolved and changed for millions of years and we're all just along for the ride. Think about it.. With all our computer technology and cars and elevators and such now.. We use our muscles less and less and our brains more and more. Over a few thousand years if we don't destroy the earth by then we'll probably have tiny bodies and giant heads w/ huge brains much like the aliens we percieve in science fiction tales.

I am a Christain but let me explain on my part the views of the athetist and to do so we have to get to their ground to understand
Very simply aethist believe in a world that everything is caused by cause an dreasoning for everything there is a cause and reason.Athetism is something that is cultivated since young and some society provided such as comuunist societies and also autocratic.Howver because of what they are more often tha not they are clouded from the truth .They are bot able to see things from as a whole regradless if they have a religon or not and when as such they believ that their world is constrained by such boundaries and u know they have only such a constrained view.Hope does not mean much to that and even if they do have that is chanelled to what they are called a state of delusion that false hope that fufills the state of denial that there is a greater being out there that is in control of their destiny

I am not an atheist. I believe that atheists have conjoured up an 'intellectual' excuse for them not to believe that God exists. 'By random chance this happened, and so it must be true becasue we are here' Look at that statement. There are so many 'chances' and they just happened to be true. If you are a math and science guy, look at the statistical probablitity of us being here. Included in those statistics would be, our solar system, and how our planet is the third in line; our world and how it has an atmosphere that protects us from solar radiation by deflecting it through a metallic core spinning. You would have to include as well that how would it be possible for all creatures, with few exceptions, to have dual genders, if we truely did 'evolve' from one species to another. You would also factor in genetic mutation to cause macroevolution. That just doesn't make sense. Right there, that is an unimagined statistic. You'd probably have more of a chance of winning the lottery three times in a row. Furthermore, yes, we do mutate genetically, humans that is. But have you ever seen a mutation that has been positive. If you watch discovery health, you will have people who have genetic mutations, but they are bad mutations. So you need to factor in those as well. Now people will tell you that dogs mutate, which is true, but that is microevolution. It is changing the physical characteristics, such as hair color, size, eye color and type. But let me tell you, it is still a dog. You know it's not a cat or a monkey. As a creationalist, I will never be able to prove the existance of God through my science. Science relies on some assumptions, and those assumptions are that everything can be counted, measured, and observed. We cannot count or measure or directly observe God, but we can use science toward his creation and observe that he in fact did that. I hope this helps. Rember, that's why we must have faith because we cannot directly observe him like the others in the bible. Blessed he he who believes in me without seeing. There were people in the bible who saw him, and he wanted them to spread the word about him so that we would believe. I hope this helps.

Break the word down. The prefix "a-" means none. Other examples are "asexual" or "amorphic". "the" refers to theology or religion. "-ism" is a category of thought.

Therefore: atheism = no thought on religion. Or no belief in religion.

In my opinion, it's got nothing to do with God. Personally, I don't believe in organized religion. I think it's a bunch of outdated traditions and too literal translations. If you believe in some sort of God, you should be able to worship Him freely in whatever way you see fit. With or without going to church.

I am an atheist because I don't believe in deities and the word atheist describes this state of disbelief. I don't believe in deities because no argument or evidence presented to me in support of their existence has been convincing.

1. Biology adequately describes life and emotions without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

2. Astronomy adequately describes the formation of stars/planets/universe/etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

3. Geology adequately describes the evolution of the Earth, land formations, etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

4. Psychology describes the human psyche better than appealing to mystical invisible dieties

5. Appealing to mystical invisible dieties is an appeal to ignorance

6. There's no physical evidence for the existence of mystical invisible dieties

7. A myriad of mystical invisible dieties have been posited by emphatically superstitious societies and have been proven to be products of overly active imaginations (today's religion is tomorrow's myth) and ignorance.

8. Believing in mystical invisible dieties seems to become quite absurd when those who posit the mystical invisible dieties begin explaining why and how they exist in the face of contradictory physical evidence.

9. As scientific knowledge increases, the role of the mystical invisible dieties oddly gets pushed further and further back.

10. Mystical invisible dieties are mystical invisible dieties (ie can never be found by empirical methods)

That should be enough to get you started.

To be an atheist (one who holds to the teachings of atheism) is much easier than to be a theist; specifically a Christian. If one believes that the self is his/her ultimate authority, then obligation becomes null and void. If I could do anything I wanted to in this life (only hampered by laws of the land and any self-placed morals) without the fear of eternal consequences because there is no God, no afterlife, then I could "take it easy". This is my first problem with the theory. To ease the conscience, a new "reality" has been created. Final authority has been replaced with relativism. If it feels right for me, then it must be, regardless of how it affects the world around me. That's too easy. It feels man-made.
Not only do I believe in God because of His promises for my eternity with Him, but because He has allowed me to begin my eternity with Him in this life. He and I actually have a relationship. He speaks to me. Comforts me. Corrects me. This is because of His desire. He desires to have a relationship with me. Not just me, but anyone who will. Also, I believe that God put a desire to search for Him in the heart of every person. We instinctively seek Him and want to worship Him, or else we hate Him.
I just can't believe in Atheists.

I'm an atheist. There are enough reasons to write a book.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
How does one reconcile omnipotence, omnibenevolence and omniscience with this world and the life on it. And, why are there so many billions of people living in entire, huge countries whose culture has nothing remotely like the xian god and jesus. Here is a post I did before on the topic:

Because I look at what life was like for human beings for the past 40,000 years (maybe 6,000 for you). People lived for an average of 30-40 years. More than 50% of children died before age one (until about 100 years ago!). I look at thousands of children permanently blinded by parasites they get from playing in creeks in underdeveloped countries.

Then I look at children of modern developed countries, of any religion. I see that they live until their EIGHTIES!! Have all their teeth for a very long time. Have excellent health, etc... And I see that this has nothing to do with religion or god. It is medicine and science. So was it god's plan that hundreds of generations of people would suffer and die in their 40's and suddenly in the 19th and 20th century, everything would get better?

That's nothing other than sadistic.

I also look at all the different gods and interpretations of these gods for the past 4,000-5,000 years. I see how silly it is to point to one religion in the roman era and say "Ah, THIS is the correct one!"

I also posted this in answer to that question:
* The bible has many contradictions
* The bible shows the OT god to be violent and bloodthirsty. He also kills thousands of children.
* For thousands of years, man has had a lifespan of 30-40 years. 100 years ago in the US, 50% of children died before age 1. Modern medicine has greatly reduced this. During eras in western history when the catholic church was in charge and belief in god and church attendance was required, this did not change. So prayer seems not to have been the answer.
* The history of religions and gods seems to show that man has no consistent image or view of what god is or does.
* The bible is open enough to interpretation that if you walked into a church and asked 3 people questions about the bible or god's will, you would get probably 8 different answers.
* People kill each other in god's name every day and he apparently does nothing to stop it.
* 50% of conceptions do not result in birth
* 1 in 8 pregnancies result in twins and one twin is eventually reabsorbed.
* Children are born with no brains, with no limbs, retarded, blind.
* Children go blind from parasites every day, children suffer asthma, and other diseases

Contrary to what many atheists claim, atheism is in of itself a system of beliefs. The Latin for "ism" is defined as:

a belief (or system of beliefs) accepted as authoritative by a group or school.

Atheism is a BELIEF in no god. I believe it takes more faith to NOT believe in God than it does to believe in Him.

I also believe God exists. I also believe that atheists are ill-educated on things of a spiritual nature and therefore they draw their strength from human logic instead.
