neither belt drive is the best. on a liftmaster, craftsman, or chamberlin opener you have lifetime warranty on belt and motor. i work on openers and have never seen a residential chain slip

I've had my worm drive for 7 years now and it finally broke. I need to take it apart this weekend and fix looks like the coupling came undone. That happened before but I must not have got it together completely. Quieter than a chain though

Worm gear the best - positive displacement, less noise, no free play, robust. Use Teflon material for smooth and silent running.
