I personally can't stand to listen to her voice for more than 5 minutes. Everyone is making such a big deal out of her role in dream girls, but I just don't see what all the rave is about I just don't feel that there is anything exceptional about her voice, what I mean by that is I would not want to listen to a cd of hers while driving in my car for an hour or so. Me and my friend were having a debate and she said that Jennifer is big because she won an Oscar and there is really no place else to go from there, meaning she is at the height of her career. I don't agree, yes an Oscar is an accomplishement for the performer but if she is not constantly in movies, or making music that people like, it is easy for fans or potenitial fans to just forget her, noone will remember or care about her Oscar. For example someone like Beyonce, does not have to win an Oscar because people seem to be crazy about her she is contantly in the eye of the public with her music, fashion, ect.

I completely disagree with you, and I don't know what you see as talent. Dreamgirls would have been garbage without Jhud and Eddie, they made the movie glow. And she can blow, she is real talent, she is the talent that we lost with replacements like Ciara, Rihanna, Brittney Spears, Cassie, and other no names that can't sing. I think the industry has made a huge improvement with seeing the talent in women who are not necessarily blessed with looks like Beyonce, granted, Jhud is a beautiful big boned woman, so obviously you have the slightest que on what real music, real talent, and real art form is.... And since this oscar win, Jhud fan based has increased entirely and she will never be forgotten becuase she does not have an acting or singing resume like these other big names, but yet she conquered an Oscar...

It is exciting to see an underdog get this kind of recognition and it is a great rags to riches story. She had no real acting experience and she nailed that one scene like a pro. You felt her pain and she put a lot of emotion into the song. She got the same reaction from every theater, claps cheers and standing ovations. That is powerful in it self I think her career will blossom because she is really talented. Her voice is beautiful, soulful, strong and gives you chills compare to all of these other female artist out here who make a career of gyrating with their good looks and screeching voices.

I like Beyonce but truth be told, her good looks and light skin is a major factor in her success with the mainstream audience.

I just recently saw the movie and I think she was fantastic in the role.

That doesn't mean she's going to be terrific in her next role.....she won the Oscar for that role.

By the way....I think she has a powerful voice and she's vocally gifted.

I don't think it's right that she has gotten so many awards and nominations. There are plenty of other actresses and actors who have been really paying their dues and making movies who have not been noticed. Although I did not see the movie Dreamgirls and have no desire to, I think Eddie Murphy deserved the Oscar much more than Jennifer Hudson.
But that's just my opinion that's like a belly button... everybody's got one. :)

She stepped into a very big role created by the one and only Jennifer Holiday...on broadway during the late 70's and early 80's...that song "And I'm Telling You" is a institution in itself...the role itself was inspired by the story of Florence Ballard, who Diana Ross replaced as the lead singer of the Supremes...it is basically semi autobiographical story....the movie was a excellent opportunity for the whole cast to shine and she had the least experience out of all them....Beyonce has done the Fighting Temptations, Carmen the Hip Hopera, and Austin Powers plus performed solo and with Destiny Child...done videos which are mini movies while Eddie Murphy has been in the game for over 20 years now...even recorded two albums...even Anika Rose has done supporting film and TV work...Jamie Foxx went to school for classical piano and was singing before he went to Hollywood for comedy....this American Idol reject took a role coveted by many would be divas and made it her own...Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston were even excited about the prospect of a Dreamgirls movie as far back as 10 years ago....this movie being made and done right was quite achievement..then to have a relative unknown ...come in and just blow everybody away...imagine what she can do with the best producers, songwriters, and music execs behind her...Heather Headley from the broadway play Aida did it...Stephanie Mills from the Wiz...Jennifer Lopez was practically unknown eventhough she danced for In Living Color and Janet Jackson...but a role in Selena changed all of that....so this is a golden opportunity for her music career which was already in the works and she will be offered alot of film work...the Oscar put her in the history books..it's up to her ....she is accountable for carving out her own destiny...she has the tools now.

Don't get me wrong, Beyonce can sing but she's not on Jennifer's level vocally....Jennifer is a gospel style belter like Aretha Franklin or Patti Labelle ..Beyonce's voice is'nt airy like Diana Ross...she might be on par with Whitney Houston but Whitney is the daughter of a even greater singer..Cissie Houston...who trained her voice to have more power than singers in her range..Jennifer Hudson reminds me of Michel'le and Shirley Murdoch...a young girl with a old soul voice....like Bessie Smith reincarnated....Beyonce's appeal has alot to do with her body and face...those Creole features passed down from her mother's side of the family...she is a lightskinned girl with alot of curves and long caucasian like hair...I think that Beyonce should downplay the whole image on her next record , cut her hair short, and do a album of more adult themed music with lush ballads like Corrine Bailey Rae....do Beyonce Knowles instead of Sasha next time...she can write and produce music...she dose'nt need to pimp herself for the cover of magazines with a bikini on.
