Pretty disappointing.
They got it right with Helen Mirren, but wrong with Forest Whitaker. He's a fine actor, but Peter O'Toole gave the year's best performance in "Venus."
I'm glad to see Martin Scorcese honored at long last...but does anyone really think that "The Departed" is the film for which he ought to have won the Oscar, when far superior films like "Raging Bull" and "Goodfellas" didn't? That's the problem with the Academy...they're always making up for past mistakes.

Pretty good. Ellen did a good job of moving things along. Although I love it when Billy Chrystal hosts, he does take up more time with his monologues. I thought suitable persons won. I think The Departed was an excellent movie and so was Little Miss Sunshine. It's hard to compare a comedy and a drama, however. Helen Mirren was unbelievable in The Queen. She deserved to win. Meryl Streep's always good, but I thought her role was not difficult. The nominations were all good in my opinion. Leo was better in The Departed than in Blood Diamonds, though. In Blood Diamonds, his accent tended to come and go. Babel was good, but hard to follow. Jennifer Hudson deserved to win. She did a lot more than just sing in Dreamgirls. She had some difficult scenes--especially as she got fed up with the group and was preparing to leave. I thought it was one of the better years. All in all--it's too long. I wish the winners would just thank the Academy and the people associated with the film without going through a list of names. It's the acceptance speeches that are a problem. For you guys-like me-it's more fun to watch with a woman who can trash the dresses and hairstyles (like my wife). That's the most fun of all.

The show was a little weird. Kind of ecclectic. My favorite part was Jack Black and Will Ferrell singing that goofy song.
I was okay with the winners.
The acceptance speeches were not very touching.
Ellen was funny - but didn't seem to "come up" to the "extravaganza" of the awards. She stayed so "low key" - and that bothered me a bit.

Helen Mirren's award was very well deserved. She was fabulous in "The Queen", i actually forgot it was Helen Mirren at some points and thought it was the real Queen lol
