i'm 23 and a half weeks pregnant and 2 weeks ago i was admitted to hospital for 3 days with pv bleeding, my dr then signed me off work for a week. i had to return to my dr last week as i was still sore and he said i really should be off work a bit longer as the type of work i do(i'm a cleaner in a high school).
i returned to work yesterday and since then i have been in agony with my back as well as under my bump.
i'm worried if i get signed off again i wont be entitled to maternity pay as since i became pregnant i have been off work in total for 4 and a half weeks.
i aint due to come off on maternity leave for another 5 and a half weeks and i know i cannot manage to work for all this time.
help!!
xx

Contact the manager of the human resources or personnel department at your work. I'm in the US and when I went on maternity leave, it wasn't my employer who paid me, but our insurance company. I received short term disability insurance payments while on maternity leave. I believe if you have to be off work prior to delivery due to complications with your pregnancy, it is also considered short-term disability. I'm not sure how things work in the UK, so I would start with your hr manager. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

You are sick and therefore you have the right to take time off sick. However, your employers can make you go on maternity leave if you are off sick 4 weeks before your due date. I would get signed off again for another week and see if that helps you, then try and go back to work until you have planned to go on maternity leave.

hi this is sammy , i would advise you to go out on sick certs and hand in your welfare certs aswell , you will be entilied to disability pay and also you will not lose out on your maternity pay as you will have still the proper amount of prsi paid. Seek advice from citzen information if you are not sure. Your doctor should take you out and put you on early leave.

I would ask my employer about it!! Under the family and medical leave act you should get a total of 12 weeks with pay, if your doc recommend you not work!!

I don't think that being signed off sick will affect your matenity pay, but check with the Department of Work and Pensions.
