Witches, surprisingly enough, are nothing like those portrayed on a fictional TV program. The clue is in the word "fictional".

Witchcraft is a religion, of which magic is a small part. It is like prayer. Witches use magic to make small changes in their lives. Sometimes that involves potions, amulets and rituals, but ultimately magic is about focusing your will. It takes discipline, wisdom and a good moral framework. Witches never cast spells on people without their permission. It violates our law about not harming others. Some witches have a vocation to help others. They may perform healing, make luck charms and even remove negative energies that could be described as hauntings.

As for your comments about the "star", that is a pentacle. It is an ancient symbol of balance and protection that is present in many cultures. It is now widely used as a symbol of paganism. Witchcraft has nothing to do with Satanism, that is a Christian concept. Some people have used a reversed pentagram to symbolise the satanic goat which has lead to confusion. Witchcraft is a peaceful religion that teaches love of nature and respect of mankind.

If you want to know more, visit the Pagan Federation website (www.paganfed.org). You will find plenty of information on Wiccan/witchcraft beliefs and festivals.

Blessed be

"Wicca is a Neopagan religion and a religious movement found in various countries throughout the world. It was first popularised in 1954 by a British civil servant named Gerald Gardner[1] after the British Witchcraft Act was repealed. He claimed that the religion, of which he was an initiate, was a modern survival of an old witchcraft religion, which had existed in secret for hundreds of years, originating in the pre-Christian Paganism of Europe. Wicca is thus sometimes referred to as the Old Religion. The veracity of Gardner's claims cannot be independently proven, and it is thought that written Wiccan theology began to be compiled no earlier than the 1920s.[2] Various related Wiccan traditions have since evolved or been adapted from the form established by Gardner, which came to be called Gardnerian Wicca. These other traditions of Wicca each have distinctive beliefs, rituals, and practices. Many traditions of Wicca remain secretive and require that members be initiated. There is also a movement of Eclectic or Solitary Wiccans who do not believe that any doctrine or traditional initiation is necessary in order to practice Wicca. The 2001 American Religious Identification Survey estimated that at least 134,000 adults identified themselves as Wiccans in the US.[3]"

Ok, now that we know what it is...
All I can speak of is myself and yes, I do spells. But, is it like 'Charmed'?- not really at all. I do spells to honour and praise nature and help others, basically. I perform certain spells (for lack of a better term) during special times of the year.

"Wiccans typically mark each full moon (and in some cases new moons) with a ritual called an Esbat. They also celebrate eight main holidays called Sabbats. Four of these, the cross-quarter days, are greater festivals, coinciding with old Celtic fire festivals. These are Samhain, May Eve or Beltane, Imbolc and Lammas (or Lughnasadh). The four lesser festivals are the Summer Solstice (or Litha) and Winter Solstice (or Yule), and the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes, sometimes called Ostara and Mabon. "

What you see in "Charmed" is the entertainment version of witchcraft. Wicca is a religion that embraces Magick. Not all people who practice magick are Wiccans.

We do cast spells, prepare potions, and do many other things. We abide by the Rede: "An ye harm none, do as ye will" There are many different paths (traditions) in Wicca, and some practice the Craft in a personalized manner, because to us Wicca is a very personal religion.

There are many places online where you can learn about Wicca and Paganism. One of the best sources for information is Witch Vox at http://www.witchvox.com and by visiting Yahoo Groups at http://groups.yahoo.com .

LOL. No. Wiccans aren't anything like they are on Charmed. Charmed is a fictional TV show that hollywoodizes Wiccans. A Wiccan is just like everyone else, but if they were to make a TV show about what Wiccans were really like, that wouldn't bring in too many viewers. The only exception would be The Learning Channel's "My Unique Family" which shows real Wiccans. But that was reality. But you know, it's not like fictional TV shows have Buddhists for example as their main focal point. Wicca is chosen because witchcraft is tied to it and since many people don't know enough about it, they think they can portray it however they want.

Not like on Charmed or any other TV show or movie, but we do potions, we do spells. We do NOT, however, believe in satan. satan is of the christian belief. No wiccan/pagan, since the do not believe in the christian god, can hold a belief in satan.

Wiccans/pagans worship nature and all her gifts.

The only time Charmed used the word Wicca, was to further the plot in the first two seasons.

It has nothing to do with real Wicca.

basically no..wicca or any other witchcraft requires exaggerated amounts of concentration & undisputed belief otherwise it's pointless.. wicca works more of like an EXTREMELY mild white magic..it enables one to heal, charm(the only option it gives you if you want to attract the opposite sex) & the rest is all down to making you feel good about yourself & be more benevolent towards others.. i have researched wicca before i actually did it but unfortunately,a wiccan practitioner can't even move things.. wicca is wore of a religion wherein one needs to constantly worship & believe.. & a major downside of wicca is at any given point in time,if you use your so-called "powers" to harm anyone or to benefit only yourself, then chances are "the goddess" will get mad at you & take your "powers" away..which is only the ability to heal & empathize with living beings anyway..it's nothjing like the witchcraft we all see in screens.. so it's basically sucking up to all sorts of goddesses you can imagine & it's always a 50-50 chance of having powers in return..though it claims to make people feel good about themselves as it promotes total benevolence..

An out of the conventional, smart question that made me celebrate with answering it. thanks. Please ask extra questions like the above.
