Well, a few things... One, why do you think he's lonely? Turtles aren't incredibly active creatures in the first place and I'm wondering if you're mistaking natural behavior for loneliness. I'm also wondering if there may be a medical problem and not "depression". If you're concerned about your turtle's behavior, I'd suggest seeing a vet about the problem. If he's extremely lathargic or not interested in eating, there could be a much more serious problem afoot. I wouldn't consider getting a second turtle to cure his problem until he gets a clean bill of health, adding another turtle could only cause you more issues. Another thing to consider when introducing a female to a male is the chances that they'll breed. If you're not ready for that, which I really don't think you are, I wouldn't suggest getting a female.
