A guy got sent to prison for threatening me in front of an officer. I didn't even press charges. The state did.(he was already on probation)

I agree with the other answerers, but if you do know who did it and can locate them, the police can help. If it's perceived to be a serious threat, it is a violation of the law.

Yes, and being that it is on the internet, that makes it Federal; keep records of the emails or IM/PM's you get and send them to your police, appended to a complaint. That will be evidence.

Stop the sour grapes and move on. You probably did something to cause this too maybe argued when you should of butted out if you feel so easily threatened. Chances are he don't know where you live or even your name so just move on. He was just sprouting off text not sharpening knives.
And even if you could have the police on him then he would soon learn who you are and where you live.

Libel is a crime in whether it is written or typed. Online libel is a federal offense. Save all conversations, just in case it is needed.

If you feel the threat is legitimate then report the crime just like any other threat.

Good luck!

Unless this person knows your details, such as your address - which would be a very silly thing to give over the Internet, then I don't see the point in worrying too much.

The simple answer is to unplug your computer and get on with your life.
