I cant believe their targeting McDonalds as the blame for fat kids!
These kids are fat due to bad parenting and lazyness.
Alot of parents cant be bothered to cook for their children anymore so they take the easy option of take away or micro meals.
McDonalds is there as a treat maybe on a saturday but not everyday and if these children are going every day, then the parents are to blame if you ask me not McDonalds.
My son is a healthy lad and can put plenty of food away, but he eats good food, not just crap and as a treat he probably gets fast food about once or twice a month, if I thought he was getting fat I would change his diet, (for his own good), lets not forget that these fat kids are also stocking up on crisps and chocolate while their not at mcdonalds shall we ban them too.
I just think everything is getting way out of hand, and parents should be held responsible and given help if they need it blame should not be put on anyone else.
What do you think?

Melvnews: Yes they may aim their ads at children to entice them in but thats when the parents should say no!!
they have to understand that take away everyday is bad for them and they will only learn that by their parents saying no. and telling them why.

CJ, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
Other parents who think that parental responsibility should be obligatory not optional are out here, I'm one of them.
I have felt the need to vent my spleen a few times today-especially as regards this poor 8yr old lad who's been allowed to get to 14 stone.
Hooray for common sense!

Blaming is certainly not the way to go. I was brought up with real good an healthy food but was also "educated" about the fast food options. I myself made the choice to stay away as much as possible. My opinion: Parents do not care anymore, kids only know the "ping" of the microwave and when asked where peas come from they reply " deepfreeze" (if you are lucky and they know what a pea is!). Where are the family dinners (not in front of TV!) and hey it is not so much of an effort required to prepare a healthy meal. If parents just give their kids a few bucks and send them off to get whatever they want or if take out is the common dinner than who do we think we can blame? Mc Donalds does not pull kids off the streets into their stores. Parents should educate their kids of pros and cons and I promise the kid will make good choices. This doesnt mean to ban everything but to make it a concious choice and an exception than the norm. Parents need to start taking responsibility again and take care of their kids or not have any! Bon appetit!

I believe it starts with Sin in general. Satan passed the buck that GOD was holding out on Eve when he talked her into taking the Fruit. When God asked why they did what they did Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the serpent.
If you look at it scripturaly Adam was made in the likeness of GOD, But after they both sinned there was a change that we still see today. They had a son made in the image of Adam. Ever since then we pass the "buck" to someone that we feel is more wrong than we are. You can see this in every aspect of life: work, school, friends, politics, prison and yes even church. Nobody is willing to take the blame for what they did or do.
Great for you for being responsible for your child and his eating habits. Today to many households are run by children not the adults. How many prime-time sitcoms depict adults as morons that are only kept straight by their children.
I always say become the change that you want to see in others. Supply & Demand, if we stop demanding junk food & junk TV then our kids will learn life long values.

Its called passing the book, blame anyone except for themselves, unfortunately there are a lot of parents out there who do give into their children's whims when it comes to food and more so junk food, we have a child on our street who basically lives off McDonald's because his mother can't be bothered cooking him a decent meal, but your right it isn't just the fault of McDonald's, its other fast food joints too that need to take some of the responsibility and lazy parents need to get their act together and start learning how to cook too, yes I know some of them work long hours, but our parents did too and without the gadgets like automatic washing machines and tumble driers to fall back on when they got home at the end of the day, they could bulk cook at weekends and pop it in the freezer for during the week so they don't have to stand cooking for hours if that's how they feel, every corner you turn in the supermarket is an Aladdin's cave for kids to focus on junk food wise, something needs to be done and everyone needs to take responsibility and not just one company in particular, everyone needs to get their act together.

that maybe the case but its the hole picture to look at we all work to many hours so we have not got the time that parents had in the old days when every day was a family meal and we all sat down at the same time and we all ate the same thing . i am just as bad as the people you say don't care but i do but what is right and wrong you are made to work hard to do well for your family and so they don't go with out but sometimes you don't look after your kids health and happiness, I've been lucky my kids are fine but please think the world is made to go round no matter what the cost and the people that get hurt . (enjoy your life and make your child's life the best you can while you can)

Because it's easier than blaming ourselves.
I agree with your McDonalds comment however, you must understand that McDonalds markets itself to children. Every Saturday morning with their ads during cartoons and their stupid collectable toys. Also think abou the fact that corner shops and supermarkets stock crisps and chocolates at the counter. Society puts these products in kids faces, and they are attracted mainly to the idea of chocolate and sweets as much as they are attracted to the flashy packaging. It is up to the parents of course, but MARKETEERS definately have a huge part in it.

Yeah, totally agree. What happened to parents taking care of their kids? Now they just dump them off at school and make the teacher care for them instead of disciplining them their selves.
