Bollywood is a word to describe the new Indian Movies. I absolutely love it. Here in South Africa it is quite big I see. In the People's magazine I always see functions example the Bridal Asia 2007 and there is always an article on a acter/actress from Bollywood. I love reading the reviews on the movies, I recently read the review on Umrao Jann starring Shahrukh Khan! I love Indian movies, it has so much dept romance and humor!

The Indian film industry never came up with the name "bollywood", fans just started calling it that because all the major studios are in bombay..Thus the B + Hollywood - H = bollywood. As a matter of fact many people from the film industry are thinking of a better name. Also, while most films are musicals/ love stories there are many other types of films which dont have songs. Also, while some films may have songs they aren't nessesaraly love stories. There are love stories(kal ho na ho, fanaa, veer-zaara), action flicks(khakee, dhoom 2), gangster films(ab tak 56, satya, don, sarkar), scary films(bhoot, darna mana hai) and other unique films (dor, black friday, chandni bar, traffic signal)Thier are many generalizations about the Indian film industry. Did you know in south India thier is also a kollywood and lollywood? Once again the fans came up with these names, not the industry.

From what I understand India has quite the movie making business which is only growing. Bollywood is the nickname for the movie production biz in India. I have never seen any Indian movies though I would guess they would have to be better than the crap coming out of hollywood!

it depends on what u mean...the movies themselves or the studioes. the bollywood studioes are the indian equivalent to hollywood and they are located in bombay. they produce more than 400 movies a year and are a much bigger industry than hollywood.
