Its a matter of self esteem. The more self esteem one has, the less they care about what others think. I do what I know is right and if anyone doesn't like it, then too bad. They would have to come up with a really good level headed common sense argument that made snese to me before I would change my mind. On the other hand, it could be part just pure stupidity too.

Did really depends on how they were raised. If this was how kids were in high school, like kids being forced to do what the bully says than they will probably do this for the rest of their life.
However, if they some kind of life changing event where some tragedy prevented them from doing something than they wont care what people tell them.
You become the person you are from your surroundings. Everyone has different stories and different events happen in their lives. That why people differ in this way.

No one wants to be alone, call it low self esteem, call it weakness, but no one wants to be alone, for some people death is a better option than loneliness so they try to do what they can to be accepted in whatever form or fashion. some develop strong characters in order to hide what they don't like about themselves and hope no one notices, others simply try and fit the idea and image that certain people may want them to portray while others try to join a cause or social group or cultures with the hope that they too will be accepted (hip hop culture,goths,hippies,preppy...) like every other aspect of mankind this is just a form of adaptation

I think most people want to fit in Also, some people have low self esteem so they have lost all confidence in themselves and their decision making skills. Therefore they follow the crowd assuming they must be right.....there is power in numbers.....so they say.
