Because: you are free to choose. Morality is your free choice. The real morality is when you act moral according to your free will. If you are moral just because you are aware of legal sanctions, than you are not free in deciding and not moral. Same if you choose to be moral because of any kind of personal gain.

Given that total and absolute (Social) "freedom" is chaos, then the better opportunity to have greater freedom(s) is found in acting in accordance with some form(s) of rule(s).

Therefore, Morality (Rule following) is basic and fundamental to a greater sense of Freedom, as it balances the 'fear' out of "Total & Absolute Freedom" by reducing-regulating its' otherwise chaotic nature.

We were created with the freedom of choice. Our creator expected us to make the correct choices that will help us to live in peace, to our highest accomplishments, and freedom from guilt and shame. Without this freedom we will not be able to think , reason, choose for ourselves decisions that will impact our lives and the lives of others for the good.
Morality is important. It is chosing the right over wrong always. This freedom to chose the right will help us to live in peace with all people, not necessary liking all of them because of their behaviour, but allow us the freedom to be the person we should be. We were not born to live purposeless or powerless in lives. We can overcome even discrimination, prejudice and all the isms, because we know who we really are - intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual being created to live to our highest potential. To do less is to live in cross purpose with our creator's plans for us. As a result you have a morally decaying society in every way. And it shows. We se examples of distressed families - children denied by parents, parents denied by their children, senseless crimes, violence in the home, etc.etc.
That freedom to do the right was given up by the abuser.

We see other examples of this freedom denied. When people are abused, living in abusive relationships(married or dating), they are literally denied the freedom to choose to do what is right to be in a healthy relationship. Their freedom is been oppressed and the oppressor is imposing his/her immorality on the victims.
Of course, the oppressor soon realizes that the situation created as a result is out of control and the immorality continues. Here, too, the oppressor has clearly given up his/her rights to be free to do the right to live in a healthy relationship even for him/herself.

When we stop caring for others, ourselves, and stop striving to
do the right, we actually stop making the correct choices. This means we have given up our freedom to choose to keep trying, to keep loving, caring, and achieving. Then we become less that what and who we really should be.

Freedom is an imperitive to morality. You must be free to choose to do what is right. This means we can get help to choose to do right and to make amends when we do wrong.

If we are free beings, it means we could make choices, and thus morality comes in use in justifiying if our choice of actions is right or wrong.
If we ain't free, then everything is fixed, so actually we cant make choices, and morality then became rather pointless

People will resort to immoral behavior to gain freedom when they're trapped and their freedoms are taken away. Things they would normally never do.
