Just because you happen to bring up something about another race, where you are not pointing the finger at a race, but are concerned that a race is getting unfair treatment, people are calling YOU a racist. Why? I asked sometime last year if McDonalds is targeting black people, because many, many commercials are featuring only black people, and not people from other races, and people were calling me a racist from asking the question. Usually, when someone is called a racist, they are saying hateful, derogatory things about another race. Since i was not, and was asking why blacks were mainly the stars of mcdonalds commercials, and if mcdonalds were targetting blacks, why would someone call me a racist?

I think its crap when people do that, I liken people to flowers, the variety, colour etc I think all our little differences should be celebrated, after all they are what makes the world a beautiful place, why should we ignore these differences as if they were something unsavoury, the MacDonald's thing, well I've not seen them, but from what you said, then yes they obviously are marketing black people. Take faith.

Personally I don't find your comment to be racist, just a question about an observation. Being a racist is saying something very nasty about a race for no reason other than the fact that someone is different than you. Someone black could actually make the same observation as you did. However, if they said it they would never be called a racist, because they are talking about their own race. For some reason you can always say what ever you want about yourself if you are a minority, but it's not proper to say it about someone else. Just watch what you say in front of people, and know who you are talking to.

I think you're right about them trying to get business from a certain race. McDonald's and Burger King have been showing minorities and playing Rhythm and Blues in thier commercials on PURPOSE. So dont listen to those people who criticize you. If anything, your only mistake was aksing those people instead of questioning those companies directly. In my personal experience, the general public does not want to believe in target audience. Its just their own ignorance and it only makes it easier for companies to target them. That's just the way it is. Why do you want to know their REASON for doing this? If you ask them, they might tell you they believe they had enough money coming from other races and wanted to get more money by targeting people who dont buy their food as much OR maybe minorities buy their food most of the time and they wanted to continue getting that money. You would really have to cotact them about it.

I think that McDonalds and Burger King have a marketing team of african americans. I am not totally sure, but in my class we were talking about how the majority of the commercials feature black people, and how these franchises donate huge amounts to african american education and scholarships. My teacher said that the leaders of these 2 franchises were black...i'm not sure though. I don't see why you wouild be a racist because of this. I guess some people just want to argue about anything, so race is a a touchy subject, and people take advantage of that.

The fact is that there are things that are characteristic of a certain race/nationality that you can't overlook. It is true, for example, that blacks prefer certain things. In my own household, with my wife being of Japanese ancestry, I've learned that Asians like certain things as well. That's not racist. It's just the way it is.
People need to stop being so sensitive and looking for trouble where there is none.

You have a valid point, both the original question and this question. You are correct in saying that racism is hateful. But there are valid questions that can be asked. I would hope that anyone who has targeted you with that will take a college sociology course. Your exact point is what gets talked about. And with no offense to the mix of ethnicities of other students, in fact, the different perspectives are about learning and understanding.
So from the sounds of it, the only answer I can think of is people who haven't been educated well like to play the "racism card". Sociology is a fascinating study. I'm glad I took it in college.

Its gotten so out of hand, people calling each other racist for no good reason that I don't think many people know what it really means anymore. As far as the commercials, I haven't noticed that.

Because people are oversensitive about everything. There are differences in culture and we should embrace them, not ignore them. Plus, I think people that are racist are usually the ones who get all tense when someone else brings up race - in a negative or positive way.

my opinion some people are just idiots. And when it comes to rastial thinking most are so over sensitive that they cannot see past their own ignorance. Sorry this really annoys me as I have tried to figger out this whole issue with the word "******". I totally understand why it is offensive to say but still do not see why it is cool to call some one this if you are black also..whatever the whole world is too uptight if you ask me...Lets
you can call me anything you like and unless it is your intent to call me down why would it bother me....
