I don't know about written evidence but I am sure there are lots of people out there who have come a cropper due to slipping on a discarded banana skin and I'll bet they have the scars to prove it.

I don't know, but about a year ago I pointed out to my Husband that you never, ever see banana skins on the floor, so how likely would it be to slip up on one? Since I said that, I've seen at least 15 discarded banana skins on the pavement, so did I never notice them before? or is Karma playing a joke on me?

During WW2 there was a German plan to drop planeloads of banana skins on London, thankfully they were thwarted at the last minute by MI5 and the RAF.

I'm holding my hand up here. Slipped on 2. Once when I was a kid, and then when was an adult, turned a corner there it was. Banged my head on the kerb, but it was my dignity that hurt most. Also done the classic walking into a lamp-post, almost knocked me out.

Not that I am aware of. Perhaps if it was a juicy banana skin on a hard polished floor which you put all of your weight on when you step on it, you may slip and fall.

I slipped but didn't fall.

We only think it funny because we've seen it happen in cartoons and it has become a stereotypical gag.

Think about it, it isn't funny if the person hurts themself.

We only laugh because its pre programmed in our subconsious at about the time when we were pre-schoolers.
