i am able to do work experience for an advertising firm over a uni break that goes for just under a month. Therefore I can only manage to do about three weeks tops of work experience there. the flight to get to where the firm is will set me back about $1000. i will be staying with a friend so accomodation is not a concern. it will be 9-5 and it's a somewhat famous advertising firm.
Is a three weeks unpaid work experience at a famous firm good enough to blow a $1000 on, and will it be significant at all on my resume? I am just concerned whether my future employer will think that three weeks was too short to be a notable work experience.

I say go for it. You will find that many potential employers will simply be impressed that you have been exposed to such experience. I have many human resource friends who will hire candidates based on SOME experience over SOME formal education. You will be considered easily trainable and the firm name will look great on your resume.

Even if nothing much comes from the trip, you will regret not taking advantage of this great opportunity if you let it pass you by.

Best of luck to you!!

I really dont think 3 weeks will be enough, lets face it if you were the owner of this company, would you take on someone who only had 3 weeks work experience? I think work experience is just a cheap way for employers to get cheap labour, I did 2 months work one time and I never got paid.

I think it would be a good experience for you. However, can you delay going until you graduate from college? Can you do it over a summer break?
If you decide to go for it, have your supervisor write you a letter of recommendation before your time is up.
Good luck!

Can't you find a way to do a summer? My students do a practicum and they must do 300 hours. You would only be putting in 120 hours.
