Hi,

I currently have a P4 2.4ghz, 512mb ram, 100mps connection server.

I have 20 sites and 3000 visitors per day across the sites with an above average session length and high number of page views.

My sites seem slow at times to access and i am wondering why.

Would improving my server hardware help much? I am under the impression that at my current traffic levels a basic box will be fine. (I used www.datagate.co.uk, based in west london)

I am wondering if having my domains in the same place may increase speed? I currently have some with 123-reg.co.uk and others are with an american registrar.

Does anybody know if upgrading the hardware is worthwhile at my current traffic levels?

Thanks,
dan

For one, your internal network runs at 100Mbp/s not your i/o traffic flow..It is what your ISP sets you at for i/o data flow, usually its like 15Mbp/s down 5Mbp/s up for cable/FIOS and sometimes less for DSL. And another you need a dedicated server for that kind of traffic flow, with its only dedicated, FAST, internet connection..

Agree with Whodeyfly. Add 1 or 2 additional servers. Instead of configuring a server cluster I would use Network Load Balancing, it is usually a cheaper option and if you’re not an expert with windows, the configuration and maintenance is a lot simpler than a cluster server.

A better solution may be to add 1 or 2 additional servers and group them as a cluster - this way you can perform load balancing.
