Ask the MythBusters. It is highly unpractical. Think back to your grade level chemistry classes: the water circulates and fluoride is a heavy element that does not get completely filtered out (no reverse osmosis back in though days). So in a couple of month of partaking in this action you will create a docile and stupid population that immediately surrounds the camps and eventually even further out, which is, as you can tell, not really practical while trying to fight a war. Also, fluoride in these quantities is hard and expensive to obtain, by that time Germany could not produce her own oil, so they had other priorities than focus on a captured group of people. There is also no evil conspiracy, there was a lot of crazy stuff going on in those days. The Germans put bags and bags of Cyanide into Russian water wells while retreating from Krasnadar. The German Lufftwaffe destroyed the inner grid of Stalingrad, so it became a pile of rubble. To identify the streets, the Germans hung dead Russian soldiers along the streets. And what about Belaya Tserkov, having 500 children and infants watch their parents executions and than being locked up without food or water for a week before eventually getting executed themselves. As compared to the deeds conducted by Waffen SS, the Einsantzgruppen and the regular Wermacht, putting fluoride into water is not so significant.

Interesting one - I've not heard this one before.

I've done a small search with no luck at all on this - even Snopes (the urban legend site) and Fortean Times don't throw anything up on this.

I'd be interested to see what sort of other responses you get.

PS. I'm not raving, but does fluoride make people more docile? This sounds very much like the story of bromide in your tea to lessen the sex drive (see link below).
