I would book it directly through the Disney World website. If you want to stay at a Disney Resort on property, that is. If you are flying into Orlando International airport, you can call Disney and take advantage of their Magical Express Service. Call them with your flight information. They will send you luggage tags and vouchers for tranport from the airport.
You don't even have to find your luggage at the airport, it is delivered to your room!! Even if you are staying at one of the Value Resorts.
The Value resorts are the least expensive of the Disney Resorts. We were there this past Christmas. You can "visit" the pricier resorts and feel free to look around. The Grand Floridian and the Animal Kingdom Lodge were decorated so beautifully. (as were all the resorts- but those are my faves)
Don't miss the Osbourne Family Spectacle of Lights at the Disney/MGM Studios Park. That alone was worth the trip!!!
Have a great time!

Well if you're looking to stay at a Disney hotel, you'll have to book through disney directly or a travel agency - but those discounts only kick in if you combine the flight... which you mentioned you already have.
So your best bet is to simply book through Disney. If you're looking for a good rate, book any of the Disney Value Resorts - The All Star or the Pop Century. They are the cheapest on property, starting at about $82 a night in the off season. If you visit before Dec. 18th, you'll have cheaper fares and a lot less crowds!
Dec 18th thru the 3rd of January is VERY crowded and the prices for Disney resorts (as well as local hotels) goes way up, so keep that in mind. You can still enjoy all of the Christmas festivities before Dec. 18th!

I've been to Disney many times, and stayed in the Disney Hotels over the years. They are great, but really quite expensive so over the last three years we've been staying in vacation rental homes. We (10 adults and 5 kids) stayed at http://www.earlofpinewood.com when we went to Florida last month and the price was cheaper than 1 Disney hotel room for the week. It has 5 bedrooms as well as a pull-out couch and 3.5 bathrooms too. It is in Destin (where Disney is) about 6 miles from Disney so getting there is really quick. It is newly remodeled and is really clean (and decorated in Disney theme) in a quiet neighborhood and has a private swimming pool and hot tub. I don't think the prices are listed on the website, but I contacted Earl via the Contact link on the website and the prices in February were extremely reasonable. We'll definitely stay there from now on each time we go.

NOLA isn't your best option. walking to Downtown Disney will in basic terms get you Disney buses to Disney inns, no longer the parks. I even have stayed off internet site two times. The inn return and forth provider is HORRID. The buses bypass to quite a few inns, are consistently over crowded, drop you off a ways removed from the gate (they won't drop you off the place the WDW buses do) and that they do no longer run late. So while you're on the fireworks and omit the final bus they do no longer deliver yet another one. i comprehend. I and 20 human beings have been stranded at Hollywood studios after the Fantasmic coach. WDW buses run till at last each and every visitor has been picked up. in basic terms stay at a WDW hotel. you'll be able to discover the WDW cost hotel are decrease than the inns on international force. All WDW inns are sparkling.

If you are planning to go to the parks, then you should consider getting a package at Disney. You generally save a few dollars by doing the tickets and room seperately, in the beginning. However, Disney usually offers a code that will drop the rates (not sure of when you are going in December) and lower your costs. The code can be a free night on your stay with passes, it can be a free ticket upgrade, free dining, or just a percentage off of the room. So, after you get the discount on the package, you save more getting everything together than buying them seperately. Also, that will give you a few little extras in your package, the option to purcahse the dining plan which can save you money on your food, etc. So, after everything is said and done, you will usually save more, a lot more, doing the package.
Now, as for as the best site to get discounted rates. You can find room onlys all over the internet, but you are only able to get the packages with Disney or a travel agent. Sites like Orbitz, Priceline, etc. all offer rooms for Disney at "discounted" rates. Now, here is my experience with these sites. After hearing how everyone is able to get really great rates for the Disney resorts on these sites, I went to the more popular sites and I priced out the same stay at each one as well as with my travel agent. In the end, the price my agent quoted me, at full rate, was actually less than the other sites. It usually was a few dollars, but a few were around $30 higher, but the thing is that this was without any discount from Disney at all. If I were to apply any discount, I would be saving a significant amount using my travel agent than booking with those sites.
Now, the problem with these sites is that after you book your reservation, you are pretty much on your own. The customer service is very poor and you can wait on hold for hours trying to get an answer. These sites are not good if you have any questions, may possibly change, etc. Also, you aren't able to book a package, so you can't get the added benefits of getting the package. So it doesn't always save you money.
I'm not sure where you live, but if you live outside of the U.S. you may already have a code available. I believe Disney has codes out right now for the U.K. I'm not positive on what they are, but I believe it is for a 6th night free, with passes and/or free dining, I don't think you can get both, but I'm pretty sure they are both available now. So if you live outside of the U.S. you should call Disney or your travel agent and ask what is available. Discounts for the U.S. should be coming out soon, but will probably be 1-3 weeks away and won't go out to December yet.
But sites like Orbitz, Pricelines, Travelocity, etc. are all sites that you can look for rooms. Just be careful that you are not paying a higher rate than you can get with Disney. And be sure to read all the fine print of the site before booking so you know what you are getting into and be sure to check over your reservation several times before you book it and also make sure it is correct after you book it.
Good luck with your planning, if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

To be honest, I am going in April and I looked into Disney hotels and they are really expensive. I would recommend you find a villa to rent nearby, they tend to be cheaper and it is like having your own home for the holiday.
