There is a possibility of any form of birth control causing to gain weight. Your mother can not determine which form of birth control you take, so just talk to the doctor when he sees you. You both can discuss birth control options.

If you are planning to be celibate or abstinent then why do you need birth control? If you're trying to regulate your period try the pill, patch, or ring. I know of 3 people who took Depo and all gained a significant amount of weight like 20-30lbs. Some of the other birth control options are alot better. Plus, with depo you stop getting a period for 3 months till it's time for a follow up shot. Some people find that it feels un-natural.

From personal experience, I would say yes, that is a major possibility. I gained about 15 kgs from being on and I have friends who have also put on a bit a weight from it too.
After speaking to a medical practioner, I was told it can take up to 24 months for the hormones to get ou of your system.
If I were you I would rather go on the pill. At least then if there are side effects you can stop taking it whereas with the injection it stays in your system.

yes it is a possible side effect of both the shot AND the pill (my friend BLEW UP on the pill). but i know girls who are stick figures and still stick figures on the pill and the shot. it truly depends on the person. and also take into account (i assume your a teen cuz u said classmates on tha pill) YA'LL are TEENAGERS. ya body is changin. you will gain/lose weight regardless. you cant really tell by the type of bc they use. my friend blew up on the pill but she also didnt exercise (not that she ever did) just the pill made it stick.
OH and CONGRATS on being celibate and having enough sense to consider birth control even though u dont plan on needing it. Better safe than sorry. You are already on your way to being an intelligent successful young woman.

Oh, wouldn't that just be the worst thing, to be fat (I'm allowed to say that since I'm fat). Seriously, is that your only concern? I'd be more concerned about STDs. Listen to your mother and stay celibate. It's the only way to know for sure you're not pregnant or have any diseases and heaven forbid, not get fat from Depo Provera.

its not the same with everyone, if you want to be sure to prevent pregnancy and not gain weight get a pill with low hormones like tri-cyclin lo...it just depends on the your body the shot has the highest level of hormones in it so it is the contaceptive method a women would most likely gain weight from it just depends on your bodys reaction to it...if you go to planned parenthood you dont need parental consent and sometimes it is free

here are a list of side effects, its not pretty. I wouldn't recommend that as a long term method of contraception. I looked into that plus implanon (implanted into the arm) but found both (after reading up on them) of them to have quite a lot of downsides, as opposed to the pill.

The depo shot can make you get larger, but so can the pill. They really affect each person differently.
