GREAT question...."YES" and without going into all the times it has happened it has happened more than I care to say...in fact this year i didnt even watch it.....it use to be xo important to me. i agree with the concept you address.

I think oscars are sometimes awarded for reasons other than pure talent or merit - but i think (in my opinion only) they probably go for the lesser oscar categories rather than Best Actor or Best Film, if you see what I mean. eg 'oh yes, it's about time xxx xxx won something'
