i am now over 5 weeks late - meaning i have now missed two periods (5 days late on the most recent period)
I took a test 3 days ago using the morning urine and it went positive, but after the recommended time for reading??! it was very faint so i decided to do another one pregnancy test (not the same make though, it didn't go positive. i'm very confused as to whether i am pregnant or not? can some tests give a postive while others show a negative?

Go to the doctor and get a blood test.
Anything could be happening to your body.
Thyroid? Illness? Stress? Pregnant?

If you are not normally late or have irregular cycles then it sounds very much like you are pregnant. Dont worry - lots of women dont get a positive result from a home urine test! The problem is they test for pregnancy by detecting the pregnancy hormone in your body. Some women dont produce enough to show on a test. Also, different tests are different strengths & therefore some are more sensitive than others. The 1st test may have taken longer to go as the amount of hormone is low. Unfortunately tests can change to show a positive after the reccomended reading time. It is caused by condensation of the urine and called an 'evaporation line' but usually doesnt look a very strong line. The fact you have missed 2 periods though indicates to me a high chance of pregnancy & not the latter. Go to your doctor & explain your situation. He /she can carry out a blood test & tell you for sure. Blood tests are much more sensitive & can detect pregnancy a few days after conception. Good luck x

If you are 5 weeks late then you shouldn't be getting a false negative.
Pregnancy tests are not reliable when read after the recommended time because you can get an evaporation line.
Therefore it sounds like you are not pregnant.
However, some women take a while to get a positive result.
You should see your doctor. You are late enough that he should take you seriously and do a blood test.

You are pregnant - why havent you been to the doctor? Pregnancy tests can only show a false negative but cannot show a false positive - so the positive test was a true reading. Sometimes the line may be faint - it happened to me. Good luck xx

The hormone in your urine that the test is looking for could be faint. There are pregnancy tests that could detect it through the doctor. There are such things as false negatives.
If you have been regular until now, I would suggest going to see a doctor. If it isn't pregnancy then there may be other things like an ovarian syst that could be preventing your period. Either way its nice to know.
If you have had irregular cycles then a doctor's visit may not be as important. But if you want to be preggers than it won't hurt to know that you are, or that you need to keep trying.

It may be true that ur pregnant from the info u've just relayed. As far as i know, u cannot get a false positive pregnancy test. If the pregnancy hormone is there, it'll show up on the test. Go see ur GP or FP clinic for reassurance.

Yes you can get false positives and fasle negatives. The best thing to do is go see a doctor and get him to conduct a blood test to test fro the presence of the human chorionic gonadotropin which will give you a definate answer. If this hormone is present then you are pregnant.

Completely possible to have false positives etc so buy a digital pregnancy testing kit and test tomorrow morning as that will have been several days since you last tested.
Alternatively pop along to your GP or family planning clinic and they will test for free for you.
All the best!

Do you feel preg. Each time I got preg. I knew it before I took the test. I didnt get moring sickness, I just knew I was preg. Does your lower back hurt, are you really tired, do you feel dizzy when you stand up from sitting. Those are all signs I has when I first got preg. The best thing to do though is go to your local health dept. or dr and have a test done.

if you saw a faint line then you are still pregnant, as there has to be some hormones detected to get a positive result, you should go and see your dr who can perform another test for you or send you to get a blood test done, good luck
