Australia, West Indies, South Africa and India are strong contenders.
Factors helping India -
The best indian team going for the World Cup after the 1983 Presidential Cup. India has found good openers in Ganguly and Uthappa, with Sehwag in there too. Yuvraj, Dravid, Dhoni and Tendulkar steady the middle order to form one of the best middle order batting. Lower middle order of Kumble, Harbhajan, Zaheer can hit a few runs too.
As on bowling - Zaheer and Sreesanth/Munaf Patel will be opening and are not as bad. Kumble, Harbhajan and Sachin - Sehwag can bowl many spin overs between them. That leaves one guy extra. He can be employed as a strike bowler - Irfan/Sreesanth or Dinesh Kaarthick as the 11th guy. Irfan can bat as well.
It is a very powerful batting line-up, and make take a beating on their bowling lineup.
Quality Fielders are in plenty - Yuvraj, Uthappa, Sachin, Kaarthick. Fielders like Munaf Patel will have to be hided on the field.
There are all winning chances for India. India will reach the semi-finals for sure.

1. Any team can win the world cup except minnows.
2. Because world cup pressure will be on top eight teams: Australia,South Africa,India,England,Sri Lanka,Pakistan,West Indies & New Zealand.
World cup come once in a 4 year. Every teams intend to win the cup and will try to play better and better. After One day series defeat Australian's are no more favoutrities. South African's did well in recent over series, but they have bad luck world cup's in past. New Zealand ,West Indies and Pakistan can surprise in few matchs. India and Sri Lanka will fight well to win their matchs.

India is going to win world cup of 2007, because now we have world class opening bowlers we ever had and number 1 spin bowlers. Batting side, we have found extra ordinary striker Dhoni, No.1 Tendulkar (if he keep patience and avoid greediness for silly singles, as, many batsmen in the past got runout because of him), Rahul Dravid a standard batsman with cool temperament, Yuvraj singh the strongest batsman and fielder in Indian team, another Tedulkar-no.2 is Virendra Shehwag.

Australia of course. Patriotism is all okay but India will make to the semis at the most. The runner up would be, Sri Lanka(the dark horse). Cheer every team, let's have a good cricket display

India can definitely reach the semis and this in turn is largely due to the efforts of team think tank i.e. Coach Greg Chappel , captain rahul Dravid and senior Sachin tendulkar. They have been able to induce collective faith in the team which hitherto ran on star power.

As of now I think its any teams cup to take home. South Africa is at numbet 1 in ICC ODI crecate ranking. Newziland beat Australia but Australia was playing their lasft five games ( ones they lost) without few of their webst players. India has very good line up if you count Sachin, Dravid and Ganguli between them india has more than 650 one day experqaince and about 35000 runs in onday. and we can't under estimate Westindies and srilanka and Englend.
This is the reason Cricket is the best game around and I am sure we all love it.

If you compare the recent forms of the teams played their last matches before the worldcup.I recomend South African Team is the best Team to win the World Cup.The Answer to Why is very Simple their confidence is Sky High,They play like a Unit and all Of thier Strike Bowlers like Pollock,Ntini and Nel Are Supreme Touch.

South Africa! They are currently the best team. As for India they really need to work hard if they want to get any where near the Semi final.
