Obviously in Kobe Bryant the Lakers have a match winner
Lamar Odom is beginning to maximise his potential
Bynum is on the verge of becoming a elite centre
But is that enough?
Of course the most common answer would be to get a decent point-guard.
Care to suggest one, and provide your explanation?
Other POV's are very much welcomed too

The Lakers are a good team with an exceptional coach. I think the first thing they need to do is lock Phil up for at least another three years. Hell, make Phil the Jerry Sloan of LA, and just keep him until he's ready to retire for good.
Another point guard isn't necessarily the answer. In the triple post offence, an elite point guard isn't a necessity. Besides, Kobe and Lamar should be handling the ball, and bringing in a more traditional point guard would take away from their touches. I think the two of them have shown this year that they are more than capable of handling point guard duties (they lead the team in assists easily).
A tough power forward is what they need. Someone who can eat glass, and maybe extend defenses somewhat by taking the occassional 15-footer. I think that Turiaf can play this role as a backup role, and quite well, but it wouldn't hurt to have another tough big man to help out down there. It'd be interesting to see Phil play Turiaf at the 4 and Bynum at the 5 together, just to see if they can make that work. Of course, the dream is for Garnett to come to LA, so you get a starting five of Smush, Kobe, Lamar, Garnett and Bynum, with Walton, Evans, Turiaf, Farmar and Cook coming off the bench. That'd be a tough team to beat...

I kinda long for the days when sports teams stayed together and you didn't have a whole new cast of characters each year.

I think the Lakers have the present team assembled currently to return to the peak of the NBA. Jordan Farmar and Andrew Bynum will grow into not good but great players. Along with Kobe, Luke Walton, Lamar Odom, Brian Cook, Ronny Turiaf... you have the makings of a team. If they just don't break it up the way the Bulls did when they had Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler (now this season they're desperate for a post presence they're thinking about giving the team away for Gasol)

All the Lakers need to do is stay put, not trading for Kidd this year was the best move they could of made. Kidd wouldn't of put them past the Mavericks and trading away Bynum would of been a castrophy!

L.A. is taking it's time to be an elite team once again..right now they are an average team being able to advance in the playoffs...but they don't have enough tools to beat the bigger teams like the Spurs, Suns and Mavs.. obviously they need to get a defensive player in the middle to help in the rebounding dept.. and also a consistent scorer aside from kobe and lamar, probably a legit pointguard.. but L.A. is a good team if not for injuries to key players like brown, walton,mihm...

And then what?
Are you going to join the team? Are they going to play "the big game"?
Fans and players. Glad I'm not a fan.
