The fear of being raped.

It is getting really bad now, but im embarrassed to go and talk to my doctor, just wondering if anyone else has/had it and what they did, were you given medication? Did you go to see a therapist? Its hard to find information on the subject.

I would suspect that practically every sentient being (possibly including animals) has this fear as it is a pretty primordially-based fear. (SO, 'You are not alone' !)

The issue, I suggest to you, is the level of awareness and sensitivity you have to the acts of sex, aggression and submission/control.

The level of awareness you have about such issues is possibly best mediated and reconciled over time by the manner in which you lead your life, the company you keep and the experiences that you choose to undergo. If you actively choose to take small steps to move the the nature of your lifestyle and physical location into more peaceful areas of existence, then I suspect that you will find your levels of sensitivity to this subject will just naturally ebb away. This might especially be true if you, quite probably in this process, manage to develop new areas of interest and meet new and interesting people, or even go to inspiring places.

I suppose, in essence, I am suggesting a form of passive distraction therapy. However, this requires you to take those small steps into areas of life that you might not have previously considered before.

A word of warning though. Please remember that in many instances those organisations and lifestyles that 'aggressively' promote themselves as peace-giving and orientated can result in involvement in short-termist solutions and human 'political' pressures may induce the concomitant negative aspects into your life.

I emphasise 'might' and 'may', because despite the cynicism available from Life's experience, I still continue to find unexpected havens of refreshment in the myriad of experiences that Life can offer you IF you GO OUT THERE AND EXPERIENCE IT (Life, not the other) RATHER THAN CONTEMPLATING WHAT MIGHT BE ....

Medication and Counselling tend to be short-term attempts to fix what it is in your power to achieve very simply and totally effectively through moving on.

If nothing else just re-reading this might serve to distract you from what I guess may be to some extent a situationally-based historic phobia.

Please tell me if I have helped in any small way.

An actively benign Sociopath !

Medication is never the way! Take some self defense classes and learn to carry some form of protection. If nothing else, I sometimes place my keys between each finger so that it looks like Freddy Kruger fingers. A few jabs to the face or groin will give you a chance to run away!

i had it, at one time. It was really bad, i couldn't even go out of the house without thinking all the vicious sexual predators out there who might do something to me. And men who were walking near to me or even looked at my direction caused my heart to palpitate and make me sweat etc. But i was also clinically depressed at the time.
I would advice you to be around men who you can really trust for awhile. then slowly start going outdoors with them and in time you will forget about it and be strong enough to handle yourself.
Also take up some self-defense martial arts. So that at least you can rationalize your fears that you know how to take care of yourself, should anyone decide to rape you or anything.

Good luck

We live in a violent world and I think most women share your concerns. Medication won't help, awareness will. The majority of women are raped by someone they know, particularly a date. Empower yourself and stay away from medication, it will only zone you out.

Think it might help if you took classes in martial arts.
