I am researching a local self help group which seems to specialise in uncovering hidden activities about peoples families and friends and I would like to see what the general opinions are when it comes to unearthing allegedly suppressed memories.

Psychologic theory has in recent years changed a lot when it comes to repressed memory. After a lot of incidences with false memory - that was often induced by therapists - the general opinion is now: It is rare that an adult will all the sudden remember sexual abuse. Most children do remember what happened and they don't forget it (exception babies and toddlers). But this is not cast in stone, and other psychologists will not agree.

FMS is a tricky subject, things can have started by a dream or even over active imagination, things that seem so real in a child's mind that they believe it is real, and in some cases does not appear until adulthood, the hard part is finding if it is in the mind or really did happen.
