To say no to this question is very naive. I have found it to be very common in smaller villages and towns. I know at least one Post Office in the town of Brampton near Huntingdon that closes at lunchtime. The one at Alconbury also appears to have a lunch hour during which it is closed.

If you want to check Post Office branch opening times you can do so at the website provided below. Just search for the Post Office branch you want to know about.

One in a local small town actually closes for 1 1/2 hours of unpaid lunch so the Postmaster can open earlier and stay open later without the post office paying overtime. The Postmaster also uses this time to pick up change for the till and to get stamps from another larger postoffice if needed. Double, peace.

Yes they small ones near me all close between 12pm-2pm for lunch, which is a real pain as most people do posting bits on thier lunch break. the main post office in the town centre is open but it gets so packed you can be waiting for up to an hour to get to the front of the que.

The smaller ones that are NOT attached to Convenience/Other Stores DO CLOSE for lunch. The one in my village shuts 1 until 2pm Monday to Friday, then on Saturday it SHUTS a 1pm.
