It's a question I ask myself every single day. I'm getting divorced from a man who hit me from time to time. It was by no means a beating...a choke here, a hit there. It wasn't all the time..it was few and far between. But even once is unacceptable.

The only thing I can say is that he had alot of anger issues and he didn't know how to control himself. I can't speak for anyone else, but in my situation I think it was more of an anger managment issue than anything else. Although he was quite controlling and often not only physically abused me, but emotionally as well (calling me names, etc) He knew exactly how to break me down and did it at every chance he could..just another way to control me. Why did I stay? He made me feel like I could do no better than him, and that I was nothing with out him. I'm really glad I woke up.

I think it differs from one man to another. Some men grow up watching their fathers do it...and then end up doing it themselves. It's very much a psychological thing. Some men have a need to be controlling of every aspect of their life..including their wife and children. Some had it done to them as children. It's a sad sad thing, I tell you that much.

Women tend to like abusive ppl cause they want the man to take charge of the relationship but when the man tends to let them be in charge she think he is weak and step all over his emotions then he snaps and beats her there are many reason for male abusing women some watch mom get beat some are tricked into fighting a women their is no real way of teach a man how to treat a lady if he watch his father beats his mother

Men that hit their wives, are cowards, plain and simple.. they suffer from low self esteem, and the only way to boost their ego is to pick on those that are less intimidating to them.. To my knowledge of abusive men.. most get along great and will even cower easily to another man.. but when it comes to women and children they get their jollies on abusing them because it gives them a sense of power and control.. to them they feel they are getting respect, but its not respect they are getting its fear.. and they dont know the difference.. They are little boys trapped in mens bodies, and they are the Bullies that u saw in school picking on the weaker children .. same same.. and they get a kick out of tormenting others, to boost their own egos.. yes they are very sick individuals that need serious help..

Yes these kind of people are sick and they have a lack of respect for women that won't change. They do not deserve to have a wife. They need a good belt themselves and see how they would feel. Never stay with a man that hits you.

Because they wouldn't dare strike a man, once their wives fights back, they will think twice about doing it again. They do it because they are sick, demented creeps that think they need to prove something for their other shortcomings.

they are angry and frustrated with themselves, have a low self worth, and it makes them feel important to pick on someone weaker than them. hitting makes the anger leave for the moment, but than it often happens all over again.
