Love, i really believe, can never be defined, because there are as many different meanings to the concept of love as there are couples, friends, relatives etc...We fall in and out of love, but it doesn't happen in a flash, it's a process (like how can one say exactly when one started or stopped loving someone). And what about perverse love, hurting the person you love most, for his or her own good?
It's pointless and absurd to try and define love, even more pointless, to some extent or other, to try and compartmentalize such a multifaceted feeling with one simple universal word, which really, doesn't mean anything at all.

The best definition I ever came across was provided by Authot Robert Heinlein. Love is when your own happiness is based in making the person you love happy. He said it better, and I wish I could find the specific quote, but that's the jist of it.
