There was a time before the internet and cable/satellite TV when the world was a simpler and perhaps kinder and gentler place. In those times it made sense not to expose young people to some of the darker side of human nature.

These days you all seem a lot more advanced for your years than we were back then. It's a pity you won't believe/realize how much you will eventually yearn for a simpler, less all-knowing existence. Don't be in too much a hurry to grow-up, you might miss some really nice things along the way.

To be honest, It is because teenagers are beligerant to begin with, challenging authority as they struggle to grow up as fast as they can, and R rated movies are filled with dirty language, violence, and sex, three things which make a parent cringe at the mere thought that their children might copy such behavior.

The fact is that in the past teenagers have done exactly what their parents feared. They watched movies like "The Program" and went right out and did the same foolish stunts they saw in that movie and wound up dead or injured. To this day they can not show the unedited version of that movie for that reason. Teens copy what they see in films.

That is all there is to it.

It's not the persons age that matters, it's the person. I know old people who can't watch Lord of the Rings because it is so gross. I also know that I can watch certain R movies. Most of the things we see in movies, teenagers already did. You can't blame the movies for that, but the teenager.

i watch rated R movies and am a teenager and nothing bad happens to me. some rated R movies are rated R for language and that doesn't matter cause most teenagers have heard it or speak that way themselves. i have see different kinds of rated R films, for language, nudity and gore and still nothing happens. it doesn't matter to me if its R or not. if the movie looks good then i'll see the movie. i think for some rated R films, teenagers need to have a certain maturity to watch it, handle it and overall understand it.

there's no reason they shouldn't. alot of the time the movies are rated R and there's not much in it. take "lake placid" for example. plus R movies usually end up being 10 times better than pg13 movies with deeper plots that interest a teen.
