They were actually taking not only European Jews, but everyone who disagreed with their policy in Germany or every occupied European country. I suggest you to read a book, which was written by Italian Jew named Primo Levi, who suffered in Auschwitz concentration camp. His account is very objective, he
never speaks in hatred, but always tries to find reason behind the veil of unreasonable ! He had written many books on concentration camps issue, I have read two of them; " The drowned and the saved " and " The periodical system ". These two titles are my free translation and can be different in English; as I said, if you want to know more about German concentration camps you should definitely read one or more of his books.

Everywhere. Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Holland, Belgium, Norway...any place the Nazis conquered, Jews, Gypsies, Political dissidents, intellectuals, homosexuals and others considered "undesirable" were sent to concentration camps.
