Hi, I am looking to fly to Marrakech at the end of April staying for around 6 nights. I would like to incorporate a trip to the sand dunes/sahara desert and want to the know the best way of doing this. Is it possible to fly from Marrakech to an airport nearer the sahara? I would like to spend a night watching sunset and sunrise out in the desert of course with a guide. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

We took a bus from Marrakesh to Ouazarzat (don`t forget to take along the Gravol for that ride!!!!! ). The scenery is amazing! Then we planned to book a tour from there or from Zagora (right in the desert). But I think you could also find a tour from Marrakesh. There were tours for a day, or for a few days, camping in the desert and riding camels, with Bedouin guides. I don`t know of an airport any closer. The streets stop at Zagora anyway. Unfortunately I didn`t end up doing the tour, but we hope to go back someday. Two important pieces of advice are: DON`T consider doing this in August, and DON`T go alone. Otherwise, I`m sure you`ll have a wonderful time!!

you can take tours thru the todra gorge which culminate with a camel ride into desert and an overnight camp - think its about 3 days, you go by bus, rather than fly. cant remember where we booked it thru - think just a tour agnecy in marrakech

Can't answer your question, but your name makes me sad. Hope circumstances have changed for you. Why not ask someone to go with YOU? MY friend used to go this area. He never asked me, and I would have gone.
