No, I think eroding our constitutional rights and turning this country into a police state is our biggest threat.Terrorist only show up every so often, but the police infringment on our rights goes on every day.
Who's the real threat?

I think IMMORALITY is the real scourge in todays world. So many of the leaders of the world have very little decency; but in many parts of the world sadly thats what it takes to grab the reins of power. Most crime stems from moral-less societies. Sadly the USA has fallen into such a downward spiral that even murder and rape have lost the 'shock value' it once had. Do we blame our culture that it's gone too far? Or have we taken our liberties to the extreme?

Abject ignorance coupled with greed is the scourge. This is manifested in violence/crime. Ignorance and greed also foster disrespect. A third repercussion, total lack of respect for our only home - planet earth, is a greater travesty in my opinion.
And all of us are pitching in.
However...
A citizen can break a petty law and go to prison. A company can poison a river while getting filthy rich.
A terrorist can kill dozens of people instantly with a bomb. A company/government can mine uranium and kill thousands through the long, slow death of radiation poisoning -while getting filthy rich.
Laws always seem to favor the rich and those in power.
We are surrounded by terrorism, crime, disrespect, ignorance, greed...
the scourge hurts us all.

The true scourge of our brave new world are those who create the conditions for terrorism, have actually morally and financially supported it when they felt it met their needs and even courted them in their boardrooms and then found it all as the perfect excuse to rein in human rights that were supposedly guaranteed under the constitution.

OUTSTANDING QUESTION!

Crime prevention and enforcement should be the NUMBER ONE ISSUE in the 2008 election.

Especially after the Bush Administration neglected the issue and cut funding for effective programs.

Bush budget means cuts for COPS program.

Byline: Tim Sturrock

"A program that has paid for thousands of local law enforcement positions nationwide -- and is funding a $1.5 million grant to update technology in the Macon Police Department -- could be cut under a budget proposed by President Bush. In fiscal year 2005, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services received $499 million from the federal government to fund grants to local law enforcement for technology, training and other uses. Under the budget that Bush presented Monday, it would receive just $22 million."

It seems like superstitious and irrational religion has led to crime within the U.S. government and, of course, to Muslim terrorism. With those two feeding off one another, the rest of the world better duck and cover.

The scourge of the world is stupidity, overconsumption, arrogance and selfishness.

Cure these and we going to be living in a better world. All the rest is just bullshit for your (our) leaders to numb out heads.
