I learned long ago that teenagers are convinced that they all have the same definition for their pet terms, but they actually don't. From what I've heard, it can range from casually meeting someone, often by chance, say at a party, and then hanging out together for the rest of the day (like Velcro), to having sex (like plugging in an electrical appliance). Usually, they mean the former.

As your daughter is a young woman and not a child you'd be better off asking her unless you were eaves dropping. By now you should have developed a more adult relationship with your daughter, insured she is well informed on methods of birth control etc. My own daughters asges 19 @ 21 say hooking up means basically getting together.

I hook up with my friends all the time. But I am married and to us it means going out.. well that was before I got pregnant..lol. But in the younger crowd it could mean a ton of things. I would just ask your daughter.. by how quick and the look on her face.. you will be able to know exactly what it means.

Meet up with?
Meet a boy at a party and be his date?
Hang out with someone you like?
This is what I think the term means. I have a 14 year old at home and uses the same slang.

Years ago the term just meant hanging out. In today's dictionary it means having sex with somebody. Also, it does not mean just boyfriend and girlfriend sex, it means sex with anybody regardless of relationship.
